I don't think that is Candelaria... There are no oak trees and less white tails as the local deer population is Mule, and not many of them. As you can see:

What ranch does his son-in-law go to as I will be there in two weeks!

If I had to guess, that is probably between South of Ozona, around Pandale.

truckemup97,

My friend actually said that it was "an even bet" that the pictures came from his son-in-law's ranch "out from Candelaria". As you know, the ranches in that area are huge and the terrain varies from moonscape to lush valleys. I think that he was vague in his identifying the location any further because he has enough "visitors" walking across without encouraging more of them with 4 wheelers.

So that is a badger in the picture before the illegals. I have seen a couple on our lease, but they didn't look like that one. I didn't know what that thing was.
Trail cams are amazing. No telling what will show up...especially in Texas with all of the exotics runnning around.

I don't think that's a badger. Looks like a coatimundi. Illegal aliens aren't all that wanders up from Mexico.

Occasionally, even jaguars arrive here.

Fair enough. We know most of the Ranchers and don't trespass.

We do have badgers in Texas, below is a picture of one (sorry about the quality, it was a little too dark) I took in 07 near Mason in the hill country. You are looking at him as he is walking away from me.

Mr. Mountain lion looks like he has his pick of morsels from a yummy piglet for an appetizer to a deer for a main course to a illegal for a little greasy spice to help flush it through. gotta hand it to the illegals for their tenacity bracing deserts, bandits, dangerous animals, all to get to drink form a nasty cistern

neat pics. next time im down there visiting my bro, can you arrange a hunt ?
(pigs or deer preferred)

I am completely against the openness of our Southern border. I think it is one of the greatest threats to our Country. I also greatly appreciate the work of our Border Patrolmen (some of whom are our friends on this forum) and the work of the local lawmen. But let me interject a little philosophy into my thread.

Look at the picture that leswad posted. That only gives a tiny indication of the roughness of that land. How many of us reading this thread, or any of our non-military Countrymen, still have the fortitude to wrap our only belongings in a bandanna, take a jug of water and start walking across that wasteland. As much as we hate what is happening to our Country, there are many thousands more who daily risk their lives to get here and improve their lot; thousands will lose their lives trying. Their only option to the "long walk" is to pay their savings to a "Coyote" who will pack them in an 18 wheeler or a freight car, lock it, and hope that there is someone at the destination who will unlock them before they cook. Neither choice is one that I would like to have to make.

Tough situation down here...no easy answers.
