Having been christened with an obscure Scottish first name, I am a little sensitive to this subject, so I Googled the name "Rhian"...
Turns out it's a Welsh girl's name, and can also be used as a boy's name. In fact, there are a number of prominent people -- mostly in Celtic countries -- who are named Rhian. The author of the article you cited appears to be a woman.
Making fun of peoples' names...sorry, not cool.
