Most fun things to shoot at

Hey everyone, I am only a few days away from getting my first .22 rifle The M&P 15-22

With it being hard to find places outdoors to shoot where I live, i was wondering what you all like to shoot at when you are outdoors? I've liked shooting at the destructible clay targets that you can setup. Anything you like to shoot at other than the regular paper targets? I've also shot at cans, but some outdoor ranges won't let you.

For example Do-All Outdoors® Ball Shaped Target | Bass Pro Shops I've heard this is fun to shoot at.

Links would be awesome or pictures Also if you recommend anything for this noobie about things I should be aware of or do to the 15/22 I'm up to hear about it. Thanks

Bars of soap, frozen potatoes, fruit starting to go bad, fruit NOT starting to go bad, water-filled plastic bottles, golf balls, tennis balls, bowling pins ...

Nice part about the food items is that it decomposes and/or birds and animals eat it. Rain takes care of what's left of soap bars. The rest needs to be cleaned up when one is finished shooting.

One is limited only by one's imagination and ingenuity - and what the range will let you get away with.

I used to walk into the woods with a .22 and a box of generic ritz crackers. Line them up against a ridge, in a tree or just toss some in the air and shoot them when they land. Light a cigarette, prop it up and try to put it out by knocking the cherry off. It only counts if you can relight it and shoot it again.
This was many years ago and now the land is sitting under a shopping mall. I've also quit smoking, it was interfering with my ammo budjet.

I'm not a good enough shot to hit a Ritz cracker or a potato chip. I pretty much have to stick with tin cans. I toss my "shooting gallery" in the back of the truck and head down to the river. The cans pretty much stay put, and just jump a little, or spin around when they're hit. Lots more fun than paper targets.

LOL....that round steel was shot at two weeks ago with my .17hmr. And I will need to get a little thicker steel next time...dented the hell out of this plate. It's about 1/4 thick and shot at from 50yrds & 100yrds....mean little bullet it is!

Paper is definitely boring. Make it a habit to pick up scrap metal. Angle iron, steel plate. Amazing what you can do with some chain and steel plate. If you can weld, you can build anything you can dream. Be creative but safe. Bowling pins make great targets.

Always think ahead of possible richochet when designing. I will post some pics later tonight.

When I was a teenager, and could shoot at the local dump, I liked to shoot at anything that exploded. This included glass bottles, cans and land crabs. Now that I am much older and somewhat more environmentally sensitive, I like to shoot at NECCO Candy Wafers or M&Ms (plain not peanut).

The .17hmr is a nasty (fun) little round.
Try paint balls on golf tees. Environmentally sensitive (puke) and they explode nicely.
+1 for each paintball, zero for misses and -1 for hitting the tee.
First to 100 (or whatever number) wins.
There are 3 sizes of paint balls
.40 Cal, 50 Cal or the standard .68 Cal.

This is the best reactive targets I have found. They are hard rubber and are used on Railroad box cars and Coal cars. If you know someone you works for the railroad, maybe they can get some for ya. Can shoot 'em thousands of rounds and they jump or roll every hit.

This is my range at my house, and some of the items I use. Have never had any ricochet's and always want to keep that in mind when shooting metal. Bowling pins are great reactive targets. Last a long time.

Ha I'm loving a lot of these ideas. Ketchup packets ahaha I have to remember that one for sure. I've shot at potatoes before but not frozen I work at a restaurant so I can get stuff like that easily. Bowling pin is fun to shoot at too. Looks like I'm going to hit up the 99cent store for some targets

Nope. The amount of lead that would rub of onto the target is almost unmeasurable.

Blow up some balloons and tie em to something. Try hitting one when the wind is blowing.

Computer hard drives! Great way to destroy sensitive data. I got 2 laptops awaiting execution tomorrow! Weather permitting.

Anything you are about to throw away. Old CDs, radios, floor fans.. i like to take a floor fan and see if i can cut the pole in half. Then go after the motor and blades. Just make sure to clean up after though.

Phone books. Good to test bullet expansion.

Lots of good ideas. I am picking up my 15-22 two weeks from today! Will have to start collecting some of these items.
