Picked up .45 Colt Mountain Gun last Saturday. Electronic posting on Sunday to MidwayUSA for another Turret for my LEE Classic Cast Turret press, a 4-die LEE die set, Redding Profile crimp die, LEE 6-cavity mold, mold handles. Equipment arrived on Wednesday! :-)

Jacketed bullets shall NEVER touch this barrel!

I read (maybe it was here) that jacketed bullets overall do better than lead.
Something to do with the way the rifling was cut.
Sure is a nice looking SW.
45LC is one of my favorites.

i wondered the same thing. i know that glock says to only use FMJ bullets.
but does it make a difference for steel barrels?

45 Colt Mountain Gun

Cast a good hard lead bullet with a gas check. You can drive them at max velocities. No leading.Make sure cylinders are alligned properly and throats are not too tight. Now you have a gun that will shoot real good. A 45 Colt is a good killer and for some reason is a lot more pleasant to shoot than 44 Mag

Congratulations! This gun was my "holy grail" when I first started pursuing S&W firearms.

I have had mine for 7 years now and I can say I'm totally satisfied with quality, fit and mechanics. Accuracy wise it is on par with anything else.

I have shot jacketed bullets out of it and it did like the PMC ammo in what I call a self defense round. It's loaded in an aluminum case with a 200 grain hollow point.

However, I must say that the revolver much prefers my cast boolits. I load a 250 grain old style Keith swc over 8 grains of Unique and take it with me whenever I go hunting, fishing or any other trip into the woods.

I have loaded and tried some hotter loads in the range of getting the same cast boolit going 1k fps but I prefer a more sedate load. Besides, there isn't anything I'm going to come across that will stand up to the Unique load.

Again, congratulations!

They're nice guns...

Thank you sir! I cast a lee 230 grain Trunucated cone bullet from WW. I use a RCBS Luber-Sizer w/ a Lyman .452 H&I die, and a Saeco nose punch (I don't play favorites w/ equipment, I use what works!) Lube is GAR 50/50. I load on a Lee Classic Cast Turret Press. I use a lee 4-die set, EXCEPT I use a Saeco Profile crimp die. I do not use the lee 'Post-size/carbide crimp die. 7.5 grains of HERCO produces a good shooting load that does not beat up your hand! After 75 round, there was ZERO leading.

You have chosen a fine revolver.

I have the same 625 dash #, and have much
good to say about it.

255 LSWC with 8.6 gr. of Unique to propel the
the projectile is what I put together for the
MG and my 51/2" and 71/2" stainless Blackhawks.

Plenty of power and consistant poi and accuracy
from all three.

I had planned on purchasing a 45/8" stainless Blackhawk, to
round out my selection, but the Mountain Gun
has more than satisfied that desire.

Actually, the BHs have not seen quite as much
actiivity in the last couple of years.

.45 Colt

I love .45 Colt I have 2 and would love to have more.I cast my own bullets and shoot rounds from mild to wild.I even drill my hunting rounds to a hollow point. And at 50 yards it will drop a hog in the blink of an eye.And punch paper with the best of them.I shoot my .45 Colt 10 times more then my .44 magnum it's just a pleasure to shoot.Your gonna love it happy shooting.
