Mountain Guns

Had my Mountain Guns out today, 45 Colt and 357 Magnum.
45 Colt loads were a 255 cast SWC over 9.0 grs Unique, WLP primer.
357 loads were a Hornady 158 XTP over 13.7 grs 2400, WSPM primer.

Their baby brother came along too

The Mountain Guns are tremendous and very useful for anyone wanting a revolver to carry in the woods or sagebrush and wants to have some good power on tap while not having their pants belt dragging their jeans down with heavier guns throwing the same loads. And they look great!

My Mountain guns are all stainless, a Model 629-4 .44 Mag, a Model 625-6 in .45 ACP, a Model 625-5 in .45 Colt and a Model 686-5 7 shot in .357 Mag.

I would sure hope to find a Model 617 Mountain Gun. Should anyone want to trade or sell, I have fodder and cash.

I'm a Mt. Gun fan myself. I like the profile of the 4" tapered barrel and a nice pair of wood stocks. My only Mt. Gun so far is a Model 29 Outfitter that wears Ahrend smooth finger grooves in Cocobolo.

Nice mtn. guns professor. I too agree that 4" tapered barrels are not only an ideal length but also just look right to me.

I am still kicking myself for not buying the model 57 mountain gun when I saw it back in the 90s.

Here is my Model 25-13. According to the publication "Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson" 4th Edition it was "introduced as a stocking dealer special in .45 Colt as a limited production model with Cocobola wood grips, 4" tapered barrel, black ramp front sight. Announced at the 2004 SHOT Show. Product Code: 160929.

My unanswered question after a lot of research is how many units would of been made? The question would be how many Stocking Dealers would there of been in the year 2004.

The MG's are great all purpose guns. They look great too. Almost impossible to resist when seen in the display case.
