I would like to mount a new Leupold 2-7X rimfire scope on the Winchester 61 rifle I recently purchased. It has a 28 mm objective bell on front. I want to mount it in either Leupold or Burris rimfire rings that clamp onto the grooves on the receiver. Should I use a low or medium height ring for this setup?? Thanks for any help!

OK thanks! I never thought about that, I will look into that tomorrow. They have always been good to help if I ever needed info. on their scopes or technical questions. Good idea!

I use Burris Rimfire rings, with the nylon inserts, It mounts the scope "stress-free", but it doesn't mark up that new Leupold, Burris is all I use nowdays, Regards Ernie

I would go with the low rings. With a 28mm objective, it shouldn't be any problem. You typically don't have to move into the medium heights until you get up into the 40mm or larger objectives, depending on the scope.

For example, I usually use low rings for 40mm objectives, but I have a 40mm adjustable objective that required me to use mediums due to the larger housing around the objective.

Low rings should be fine with that set up. I have two of those scopes they are great on a small game rifle.

A little over 25 years ago I used that same model scope on a bolt action 22. A great combo! until my eyes got older than I did, then I went to a 4.5-14 x 40mm AO. Still shoots great! Ivan
