I'm getting ready to move, and leaving my old bunkhouse out back, with my little workshop, is pretty tough. I'm going to have a more modern setup, more secure and weatherproof, but dang it, I'm gonna miss this old shed...leaky roof, drafts and all....

Any of y'all had to deal with this sorta nonsense?

I'm sorry for your loss. My wife has been threatening to sell this place and move into a condo next spring. I'm fighting it but the old hag might just win out. Fortunately she's been quiet lately about it all and I'm trying to be a good boy too, at least around her.
I hope the new place works out for you though. From the picture that workshop would work about 4 months here until the snow moved in.

That's a tad bit drafty alright but, yeah, I sympathize w/ ya on moving from familiar territory to the almost unknown.

Also, one never knows how much stuff they have, until they move. I found that out the hard way too many times over the years.

Well, it's not exactly movin to the unknown, since we're buying the old family homestead, and it's only about half mile away. It's not like I'm being transferred to Detroit...:)

That's even better. A return of many good memories while making new ones. We had a 2 storey house I lived in till 15, and I still miss that house some 31 years later.

Looks like a good place to hide from the summer sun, enjoy a drink or three and swap some tall tales.

I know exactly how you feel...exactly. We moved back to Utah two years ago this month after having lived away for 30 years way up in Northern California...almost to the Oregon border, on the coast in the Redwoods. We were practically isolated from major population areas...and I loved it.

At the old homestead, we designed and built our home. I had all my out buildings (barn, sheds, chicken coop, dog kennels, etc.) exactly the way I wanted them. Had a nice apple orchard...good sturdy corrals. Life was good.

Then, two years ago, we moved back to Utah in order to be closer to family. My mom's getting up there in years, our kids are here...so it made sense to make the move. I didn't think I'd survive.

Well, believe it or not, for the most part, I actually like it better here than at our old place. Didn't think that would happen, but it did. It took me several months to get this new homestead the way I wanted it. Had to build another barn, a hen house, and a tack shed. Had to fence in some pastures and plant some more apple trees, but things worked out swell.

Don't worry, pard. Every move has a silver lining. But....with that being said, the next time I move, it'll be feet first in a pine box!!:D

I hear ya. The rifle club recently replaced the old hangout with a fancy new building.

I like your setup... though it looks like I might scap myself on the way in.

I feel your pain. Last year we left our home of 20+ years to move into a new place that we (finally) built to better accommodate our handicapped son. Since we were building new, I built in all the "want" stuff for me as well. Man cave, workshop, over sized garage, reloading area and of course, the gun room. The new house is great but it was still tough to leave "home". We still miss it sometimes but I can tell you it does get better with time.

We just had a 12 X 16 foot shed put up. They started this last Monday and was done Wednesday. I am just starting to move all the overflow from the garage into it. We have a small two bedroom house. This all started about a week ago when I bought a snow blower. Theresa is using a wheel chair and a knee scooter. Because of a grade and steps she cant get in the front door and to get in and out of the house she needs to use the backyard and back door. We can get heavy snow here so I bought the snow blower to get her in and out. There wasn't any more room in the garage so that snow blower cost me a extra $6,000s! Think I can get the doctor to write me a prescription for the blower and shed?
I also retired in California and we mover here to Utah in 2005. We like it.
The weather here at 6,000 ft in SW Utah is very similar to where I was raised in Wisconsin.

You said "I'm getting ready to move". We decided last year to move into a newer house. I started in January going through "my stuff" and what a job that was. We had 4 garage sales and sold 10K worth of "my stuff". We closed on the new place the end of July and we are finally getting settled in. I never want to do that again especially at my age. Our old house sold in 2 1/2 months and my wife says we are now in the 21 century and she is happy.
