Just caught a preview of this new western starring Christian Bale and Wes Studi tonight. Bale is ordered to escort a dying chief to Montana and encounters many violent encounters along the way. Might be a great flick for us western gun fans. Starts at select theaters Jan. 5 and all over on Jan.19 Just thought I would give a heads up.

It's touted to be the "best western since Unforgivin'". If it's in that league, I'll be seeing it for sure :)

I don't live within 100 miles of a movie house so I seldom see anything till it is a few years old and free on tv. But this movie I might just go to town for. Was in the city over Christmas and saw the Darkest Hour. First sit down I have been to in over a year.

Hope it's good guys seeing I suggested it! Hope we see some realism. Totin good ole 1873 Winnys in the scenes I saw. Glad to see repros made today so guns in westerns can be more period correct.

It’s definitely on my list in January. There aren’t many movies that grab my attention anymore but this one is certainly an exception.

Definitely want to see it. Good westerns are few and far between these days. I’m skeptical that it will approach Unforgiven, however.

Hope it's as good as "Open Range" and "3-10 to Yuma. Last decent westerns I have seen.

I'm in, however, have a grueling work schedule going to begin starting Jan 5th. I HOPE, it stays in theater long enough to be able to see?

Some of the scenes were filmed in South Central Colorado in the Wet Mountain Valley, including the final scenes of the movie. I was assigned by the SO for two days to provide security for the location and shoots. It was a very educating experience, they were very organized and efficient, although watching one scene shot about 40 times got a little old. All the people associated with the crews were very nice, even talked a little bit with Rosiland Pike the female lead, very classy lady. I talked to the armorer/weapons guy several times. He was a retired Air Force Security Forces firearms instructor and I am a retired AF investigator, lot in common. I am looking forward to the movie and plan to see it as soon as it shows anywhere near here. The weapons folks knew their business and as far as I can tell the weapons used in the film are historically accurate, and I am picky about that. The Cavalry weapons and tack was spot on. I am looking forward to seeing it and hopefully eventually buy a DVD when they become available.

It seems friends that have been to the movies recently are almost all coming down with the flu or whatever is making the rounds now. We were to have dinner with some long-time friends last Friday, and the couple both got the flu (or something); she traced it to her going to the supermarket. Had to cancel our get-together.

Sounds like a great flick, but we'll probably wait for it to come up on pay TV. At our age, we can't be too careful of mingling with crowds, even in view of the fact that we both got flu shots.

I love a good western and look forward to this one.

Best one I've seen of late is the miniseries "Godless" on Netflix.

(In most (relatively) recent years, "Open Range" probably takes that honor.)
