Hello everybody, my question is to all who compete. Is the MP 9 core series f/s a good option for any competition? And if so is any issues managing the elevated rear and front sights. (POI) during stages? Thanks in advanced...Stay Safe?....

It depends on what you do. Some pistol disciplines have divisions where red dots are allowed. Did you have any specific type of competition in mind?

Idpa first then move on to others.(uspsa,steel).
But first will be idpa....Are there any 5 inch cores being used by any members for that competition? Have yet to decide on type of holster as well.

It is legal for IDPA. However, NO optic sights are allowed in IDPA, so I chose the M&P Pro 5" 9mm, wich comes set up just the way I like it for IDPA/SSP, or USPSA Production. Add a COMP TAC or BLADE TEC holster and mag holders and you're all set.

There are some shooting games where optic sights are allowed, but for IDPA and USPSA, the CORE added features are pretty much useless. You put an optic sight on in USPSA, you are shooting OPEN division against the big dawgs with $3000 STI mounting a CMORE and compensator.

I use a 5" CORE for USPSA/IPSC and a FS for IDPA. The IDPA is a JG Model, but with an full set of FO sights.

The 5" is ok for IDPA, because it fits in the "box". Realistically, it really wouldn't be practical for CC, so I use the FS.

However, for gaming (IPSC), the 5" and its tall sights make acquisition very fast. I would like to find some FO sights for it, but it may be a while yet. You want something very visible for "run and gun".

I have a JPoint red dot, but I'm not good enough for that class, and I can't hold the dot and move at the same time.

I ended up getting the Safariland holsters for both (a 5" version) and FS version. They make an offset/drop version which is legal for IPSC, and makes the draw very fast. Both holsters for about $70 total.

Awfaxis,

Were you using your Core 9L in the production class for uspsa? (I'm just starting to look into competition shooting so forgive my lack of knowledge in this area.)

thanks!

We have several shooters using M&P 9 FS and 5" guns in USPSA. Most all of them are shooting in Limited Minor to make use of the extra capacity. With the Taylor Freelace basepads they can stuff in 22-23rds and still be legal length. They can always use stock mags and shoot Production with it's ten round limit but with our usual 19-27 round courses most the guys would rather blast away, it pays the same. I really haven't firgured out the advanage to the CORE series other than a plinker, as said the optics you into Open Class in USPSA/IPSC againest the $3K+ guns, it's hardly a contender for Bullseye shooting and completely out in IDPA. It is priced right with the Pro Series so it doesn't hurt to go with it, I just don't see any competition use for it with glass mounted.
