I see that you are new here (welcome) - do a search and you will find gobs of information on the Shield. Yes, I carry a Shield daily.

thanks, new to getting a gun.. been a fireman for 25 years but finally building my first ar-15 and want a hand gun.. I think for the sale price of 349.00 may be a good deal.. another friend said a Taurus 2nd gen t111? but feel S&W is the way to go

First WELCOME to the forum, Second Thank you for your service as a Fire Fighter! As for the Shield I have had mine 9mm Shield a few months now LOVE it! I would go S&W way before Tarus

Well. This is a Smith forum, so expect mostly positive response, especially compared to other brands such as Taurus. I personally carry the shield daily and highly recommend it. It is also an extreme pleasure to shoot.

I've been carrying a Shield 9 for over 3 years with great satisfaction. I recommend it.

It's taken a while for me to warm up to the Shield, but it may just be the best thing to come out yet. There are many excellent holster choices for the Shield. The weapon is reliable and very soft shooting. One thing I learned on this forum is the thumb safety is very manageable if you press hard into the slide with your thumb while operating the safety. I really do like the idea of a thumb safety for a concealed weapon worn concealed under clothing. The chances of actually having to use the gun in self defense in rare but the operator is more at risk from daily handling. Kipster: Your radar is good, the Shield is the way to go. Also agree with your choice of 9mm for this pistol, the better 9mm ammo is pretty effective while making for a very nice shooting small pistol.

Very Good For CC

My Shield 9 is my every day carry. My wife just bought the
Ruger LC9s Pro and it's likely a easier carry but not enough
weight for me. Excellent pistol, however.
You might check both out at a dealer.
Now, I prefer the Shield's stainless (black though) slide to the
Ruger's steel one but____ I carried blued steel weapons my entire
career and never had a problem. Treat a weapon "nice" and it'll be nice to you.
You'll not regret buying a Shield.

I know this is a S&W forum, but I have been a huge Glock fan. However the Shield has become my favorite carry piece. It carries great and is a softer shooter than the Glock 43 IMHO.

Welcome to the forum! My 9mm Shield is my EDC and a joy at the range. It conceals very well, shoots smoothly and reliably--I don't think there is really a better choice for this category, and I've shot most of them, including the G43.

Since you're a firefighter, you qualify for LE pricing (at least at Bud's Gun Shop) and their price is $309 with free shipping to your local selected FFL transfer agent. Or, your LGS might offer the LE pricing and you skip the FFL fee and just pay state sales tax. Let us know how it goes..

The Shield by all means! It is the most reliable, accurate. and easy to shoot gun. I just got back from the LGS&R after shooting over 100 rds. of ball ammo. I got my Shield last Memorial Day and have over 700 rds. through it with NO ISSUES!

The 9mm Shield is fine. It was my first pistol and carry handgun. It took me a good number of rounds down range, dry firing and practice before I was able to handle it well. However, as quiet as it is kept, I did long for a Heckler & Koch P2000 with the decocker and V3 trigger.

S&W definitely...and the Shield is a good carry gun.

I would advise against Taurus...some of their offerings are interesting, but their customer service is very poor and slow. You may never need S&W's excellent service, but if you ever do, you will appreciate having it!

Welcome from North Carolina. You will not go wrong with the Shield, I carry one every time I go out. Very comfortable to carry, even all day.
