I bought an MP Shield 40 after decades of saying I would never own a S&W pistol ever again. I love all their revolvers but had real issues with their old pistols. After getting it home and taking it to the range, I can honestly say it is one of the worst pieces of junk I have ever owned and I own over 30 handguns of every "Quality" brand. The trigger on this weapon is horrible, the "pathetic" slide release takes 2 hands - and it has a "defect" that "sometimes" allows the slide to automatically load a round when doing magazine changes - and sometimes it does not - you just never know with this gun. Having to train around a "defect" is unacceptable and S&W should correct this "feature" on their M&P pistols - so much for quality control. My Glock's all go bang EVERYTIME and that is kind of important on any carry weapon. I am either going to sell this thing or relegate it to the very back of my gun safe as a paperweight.

So... You took the time and effort to register on this forum just to rant?
Too bad there wasn't some way you could have rented/tried one, BEFORE wasting your money.

The trigger on this weapon is horrible,
The Shield's Factory trigger is just as nice, if not better, than many of the subcompacts out there, including my G19 and G26 Factory trigger.

Well, First off... If you had done ANY research before wasting your money, you'd KNOW that it's not INTENDED to be a Slide Release and Second, a NEW Glock's Slide stop (also not intended to be a Release) is just as difficult... Until it's broken in.
My Glock's all go bang EVERY TIME and that is kind of important on any carry weapon.
I guess I missed the part where your Shield did NOT go Bang every time?

Why waste room in your Gun Safe???? Sell/Trade it for a G43. I hear there are quite a few Shield owners who bought a G43, just to turn around and sell IT (preferring their Shield). I have more Glocks than S&Ws and I prefer the Shield over the G43. You should get a good deal in the swap. ;)

Next time... Find a way to TRY a pistol (try a friend's, rent one, etc) before buying. It will save you a LOT of Time, Pain and MONEY. ;) :)

Since you only joined to rant, I'm guessing your 1st post will also be your LAST? Have a nice life. :)

Great post RobzGuns--I was thinking the same thing. ;)

Nothing against Glocks at all, but as I've mentioned in previous posts, I rented the Glock 43, XDS, and the 9mm Shield and shot 50 rounds through each of them to compare and decide before I bought my Shield. Okay, get ready....I liked the Glock 43 the least compared to the Shield--the trigger in the Shield felt better and gave a better break and accuracy. My target groupings were dead center with the Shield and XDS, but not so with the Glock 43.

In my side-by-side rental comparison--there was no contest, the Shield was far better in all respects to me (and was the smoothest shooter). I left the LGS/Range right afterwards with a brand new 9mm Shield NTS and have never for a moment regretted buying this fine handgun. I carry it every day, take it to the range every week and run at least 150 trouble-free rounds each time except for the very rare target ammo duds.

"Old pistols" meaning you owned a sigma once?

Welcome to the forum! I can already tell you will be a valuable member to our discussions!

If it's just going to be a paper weight, don't take up precious room in your safe; just send it to me. Maybe my shield 40 and 9 can teach it how to behave. Probably just a case of Glock-itis; I can cure that with all my M&P's, SD/VE's and Shields. I predict a quick and full recovery!! :-)

You are absolutely right Semperfi63. The Shield is a complete piece of trash. I coudn't agree more. Since we're on the same page, I'll give you $50 for it just so you don't have to deal with it anymore.

Although I'm wondering if you actually do have one since the "defect" of automatically loading a round when doing a magazine change is a known complaint/bonus with the FS and compact sized 9-45 M&P's, but I don't know that I've ever heard of anyone say that it has happened on their Shield. Certainly hasn't happened on either of mine.

I was wondering the same thing, as I don't remember it being mentioned for the Shield... But I had enough to reply about already. :D

If it looks like a troll, smells like a troll, probably is a troll.
That's what I suggested to the Moderators, when I hit The "Report" (Triangular Warning) icon.

Life's too short to give a **** about a glock guy hating a Shield.

I think the M&P shield is a fine little hand gun for what it is designed for, CCW use. I think most all of the reviews I have seen on the M&P Shields back that statement.

I cant help but think the majority of the bad things said not all are just inexperienced shooters or folks with an ax to grind. Look how many describe what they think is a problem for it to only to be the way the Shield was designed to function. Look between the lines on the take down reviews how many don't have a clue what there doing and should have read the owners manual.

I have both M&P model hand guns and Glock model hand guns. They are similar in function being striker fired yet a little different from each other in feel and personality. I like both brands of hand guns a great deal and enjoy owning both brands.

I say if you don't like the M&P Shield then you should just sell it. The M&P line of hand guns are proven hand guns and good ones but like anything are not for everyone. Also like any brand hand gun including Glocks and all the rest of the brands out there you can get a bad one. In that case send it to S&W and get it fixed (Lifetime Warranty)

I don't take one persons bad mouthing of the Shield hand gun to serious. There are just to many positive and honest reviews concerning the Shield by folks that know what there doing. There are also reviews of what some perceive as small negatives out there on the Shield as well. (The key thing with reviews is there perspective may be different than mine, yours or others depending on there experience or needs)

You can tell the reviews positive or negative that are done by folks that know how to shoot and understand the function of there hand gun and the ones that are done by Goobers that don't know what there even talking about or have an ax to grind for what ever the reason.

Just my 2 cents...On all the reviews I read.

Shoot Safe All,
Bill G77
