Hello all I just got my mp22 and did a cleaning and oil before I shot it. I noticed on some of the magazines my slide did not lock back which ended up in a dry fire. When I go to rack the slide open it feels stuck in battery and requires more force to open.

Once open the slide racks just fine with no friction. It mostly happens after rapid fire but when taking slow shots the slide locks back. It might be user error if my thumb is holding the slide lock. I ran out of ammo to test this 325 rounds goes by quick. But maybe im thinking when the gun heats up during rapid fire it gets gummed up or something. I read through lots of threads with similar last shot hold open inconsistencies. But what concerns me is the extra force to pull back the slide again.

I am shooting Federal target ammo 325 box (was the only stuff in stock at lgs)

Otherwise I had a few FTE here and there. I can't wait to shoot more and test the gun more! I really like the gun and did lots of research before buying hoping I would get lucky. I think the gun isn't completely faulty maybe some user error on the slide lock backs.

Thanks for the reply! Have you got your gun back from sw? I think I recal you sent yours in on one of the threads. I will try fiddle more with it tonight and see if I can find anything. I have heard of people's guns being able to eat anything. Maybe more breaking in and cleaning I hope. I'm new to pistols to so I'm still learning.

Nice! I've been watching lots of vids on youtube and many of peoples guns dont lock back every so often. I would love a 9mm but I also like to shoot a lot on a budget. One of these days!

Ok I did another cleaning and tinkering with the gun. The slide is harder to rack when the hammer is down because you are re cocking the hammer on that pull. I thought it might be stuck or binding of something but that is not the case.

So when the slide fails to lock back on the last shot it seems the slide is not cycling fully. Hopefully its just user error and weak ammo like you said. If anyone else has the problem or fixed it LMK!

During the later part of the day outdoors shooting and dropping mags into the dirt, my slide wouldn't lock back after the last round or wouldn't lock when I manually lock it back with the slide release.

After coming home and looking into this, I found a small pebble lodged inside keeping the slide release from fully going up, which I used a dental pick to pick out the pebble. Now the slide locks when it should.

Thought I'd throw this little bit of info for those who may experience a similar problem. BTW, it was nice to see that the manufacturer embeds a small steel pin in the slide for the slide release to lock against, instead of the aluminum slide itself.

The lube instructions that come with the M&P22 are not very specific. I've found it helps to be sure the contact area between the slide and hammer has some action grease to help cycling with shooters who have "soft hands."

I'm really missing the 22. Hope to get it back soon in working condition. The 17 round 9mm mag is brutal to load. Takes a lot of effort, plus expensive at $0.30 per round!
Try an Uplula loader. your hand will thank you.:D (most important tool in my range bag)

I had the same problem, I was using CCI mini mags so it was not the ammo in my case. I had to send my gun back twice for it to get fixed. But they ended up replacing the trigger bar and the gun locks back again.

I have the same problem when using Fed auto match. I replaced the ammo with mini mags and super speed. No more issues, it runs great.
