New Guy here. I need a little help and advice. I was doing my research looking for a defensive carry weapon. I checked out Glock, XD, Beretta PX4 before I came across the M&P. While reading the forum some members mentioned SKU 307703. It was described as a first responder's weapon, with night sights and 3 magazines sold at a special price. I was already sold on the M&P but could not tell the difference between 109003 and 109303. The descriptions only varied with "proven safety features". So between these 3 is my new carry piece. Any help would be appreciated.

Until someone pipes in - take a look at the following threads:

109003: Smith & Wesson 10 + 1 40S&W/Mag Safety/Internal Lock/3.5"/Maryland Approved

109303: Smith & Wesson 10 + 1 Round 40 S&W w/3.5" Barrel/ No manual safety/ no internal lock/ 6.5lb trigger

307703: Smith & Wesson 10+1 40S&W / No Mag Safety/ 3.5"/Night Sights/3 magazines/ 6.5lb trigger

Any M&P model starting with 3, i.e.307703 signifies Law Enforcement model. Which means 3 mags instead of 2 and special pricing. LE models you have to qualify thru the seller to purchase. Not all sellers have the same criteria.

Almost.... The .45 only comes with two mags.

You may have a hard time finding a LGS that handles or can order LE models. The ones that can prices may vary wildly. Not being far from Dallas we have a GT Distribution but they don't carry S&W. I found a LGS in Tyler that would order me one but wanted about $700 for the same gun I ordered from Buds for $455.

Buds police supply sells most models when they can get em in stock. I've bought a few firearms thru them. They "qualify" a lot of people others don't for the LE discount. You would think that Texas Department of Criminal Justice wouldn't be that hard to qualify!!

What he said ^^^^^

Security, volunteer firemen, pilots, I even think ship captains qualify!

Check it out, Bud's is good to deal with.

Follow up: Thanks everybody for all the good advice. I finally found two distributors here in Florida for the pistol(s) I wanted. The S&W rep e-mailed me with B&H Police Supply in Merritt Island and Lou's Police Supply in Miami. I also decided to stick with the Compact (307703) instead of the Fullsize (309700) for now. But I already know the Full Size is in my future. Their price was the same as Buds and ClydeArmory at $455 (had to pay FL taxes and S/H though). Anyway, once again, thanks for the help.
