Greetings,
Been a while since my last post.
Has any one heard of any S&W MP pistol with case rupture failures similar to the Glock 40S&W.
Many may be aware there have been a high number of failures from the Glocks due to the case being unsupported at 6'oclock due to feed ramp design and/or slightly out of battery firing of the pistol.

I am looking to buy another 40cal and would like to hear from anyone with knowledge on this matter regarding M&P.

A handgun is what you use to fight your way back to your rifle.

The unsupported case issue you refer too also creates "glocked brass"in which the base of the case swells on firing. The resulting bulged case is a well known and consistent problem reloaders face with cases spit out of the glocks. S&W M&P's as a rule do not have this issue.

Kaboom can happen with any firearm with bad ammo, that said Glocks used to be susceptible to this, they fixed the problem, still more prone than others cause less support, but much less susceptible than they used to be. That said, it is the 40S&W (note the S&W part), so any kabooms with .40 M&Ps will be few and far between and will ALWAYS be ammo related, assuming a properly functioning, Unmodified firearm.

Somewhere around here are pictures of an overcharge KB with a M&P. I was surprised at how well the gun handled the situation.

Glock .40s had an issue because the cartridge case was not fully supported in the chamber. The bottom had a small cut out to assist feeding. The brass from my old Glock 23 was consistently bulged at the point of the case that was unsupported in the chamber.

M&P .40 chambers fully support the cartridge case, so it should not be a problem. Ever since I replaced the Glock 23 with my M&P .40, the case bulges disappeared.

Glocks and bulging cases

Had a Glock 27, yup 40 cal. The cases did expand and sometimes proved to be unreloadable. The M&P40c does everything well, except the trigger is not a thing of beauty. I have gotten accustomed to it. The mags have not fallen, even the extended one. BUT, the M&P22c drops the mags frequently. I think the release is very easy to activate. The slightest touch is all it takes.I contacted Smith, they sent me a new mag, which seems to stay better. Customer service advised me to send the gun if it continued. I cup my off hand under the mag to prevent the drop. I love their products, may get a bodyguard 380 for summer carry, the 40c gets heavy and shows under a T shirt.

My 40c has never had any bulging cases. Just finished tumbling about 600 cases and inspected them well with not a single issue.

Hmm title of thread should read Glock vs Smith. . I .M .H. O . My M &P 40 c has been flawless thanks .

No bulging cases in either my full size M&P40 or 40C after quite a few rounds through both. (I lost count after a thousand or so) Disclaimer - I don't save my brass. The only time I see it is when sweeping it off the range floor.

I used to have a Glock 23 & never had a problem with it, either.

Shouldn't there be a statute of limitations on threads? Maybe after 2 years they could get locked so the the same old 4 year old thread doesn't get dug up and we "discuss" the same thing over again. If it's a current concern, start a new thread. If you are new to this forum, don't start out by making your first post an answer to a question from 2012.
