I was in third grade when the Beatles hit the Ed Sullivan Show. I admit to enjoying a few of their tunes when they were a group and before they tried to have dueling singles on their albums. I will admit that Ray Charles version of Yesterday makes McCartney sound like a pre-pubescent boy.

I would have no problem working to Doo Wop and Motown. I hated it when the Beatles became more popular with my high school and college crowd than Motown.
I do not now or ever have I considered rap to be any form of music whatsoever.

"Music not to work by" ....a doctor doing surgery on me listening to Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody with tower speakers cranked to 110 decibels. As far as those condemning disco, all I can say is, I had a lot of fun meeting and dancing with the ladies during that era and I burned a LOT of calories.
I was never a huge fan of the fab four back in the '60's, but came to appreciate them later on. The Abbey Road album is probably my favorite. Still not a fan of their early stuff, though. I never wanted to "hold their hands".
I haven't attended a lot of live performances, and some I did were not by choice (Neil Diamond, for instance). Jimmy Buffet shows are a chaotic mess where everyone thinks they too can sing. A couple of country stars. The only one that wowed me was Tina Turner. Absolutely awesome!

I like 1970 - 80's Rock especially Southern Rock and classic country. I sit out on my patio in the sun with ear phones a cold beer . Lynyrd Sknyrd .38 Special ,Molly Hatchet and others takes me back when buddies and I would take off to the Ozarks , Pickwick or Sardis Lake for the weekend.

Back almost 50 years ago,in my misspent youth I was an oldies disk jockey. During that time I played a lot of 50s and 60s rock and roll on the air, and later on went to a lot of concerts featuring the old time performers. I actually got to meet some of the old time performers.
One night there was an oldies concert at the Weinberg Center in Frederick, MD where the Tokens were the headliners. During the intermissions the performers were signing autographs, and I got in line to get the Tokens to autograph my cassette label from one of their albums. I got to meet the lead singer, and told him that I was playing their records when I was on the air during the 1970s. When I told him what stations I worked for, he shook my hand!
And when the Tokens sang "The Lion Sleeps Tonight" that night, he could still hit the high notes.

Not only is she amazingly ambidextrous, but she had her feet going too. One of them on the pedals I assume, the other one keeping time or being a "counterbalance" maybe. She is good! I bet she burns a lot of calories.

I am trying to figure this out Ken. Is it the Beatles, or the British invasion that you do not like? I love Doo Wop, my favorite guy is Dion that started on a street corner in NY
Doo Wop was on the way out. Our own Beach Boys were bringing the surf sound along with a following of similar groups. Bobby Darin was headed to the big band sound. Rock was evolving, and in my mind the British Invasion spurred tremendous quality diversification. The Rolling Stones brought the blues rock into focus. The subtle sound of Gerry and the Pacemakers, the Animals, the Kinks led a prelude to Metal ( which I do not like ).
Motown was on the rise, and would claim a place in music. And Folk was on the rise.
We went from a common sound to extreme diverse sounds. The whole music scene imploded, and we reaped the benefits.
I could go on much more, but the Beatles did not destroy Doo Wop, they were just forerunners in a wonderful evolution.
Still not much beats In the Still of the Night recorded in the basement of a church in New Haven, CT
