Music You Enjoy

Eva Cassidy

She died too soon like so many great talents. She played up the road in D.C. but I never heard of her til I started cruising You Tube. Could have hopped in the car and gone up to see her had she gotten the publicity she deserved.

Harry Nilsson had an amazing four octave vocal range! ALL the voices on this song are his.

Here's a piece that might make an earworm for you. It's not rock, but another discovery from my baroque ramblings.

It has a catchy, rhythmic tune, a grandfatherly conductor in full dress tailcoat with twinkling eyes and a light touch with his orchestra, a drummer providing a bit of comic relief, a fine soprano and bass-baritone duet, and a sumptuous chorus.
Besides that, what really got my attention was that all the performers were having so much FUN, just grinning and nodding at each other in time to the music all along the way. Go full screen so you can see details.

Jean Philippe Rameau
Forêts paisibles (Les Indes galantes - Les sauvages) ca 1735. "Peaceful Forests" from "The Gallant Indies - The Savages"

Any bassists out there might find it interesting that the bass viols have five strings and are fretted with string doubled and tied in a special knot.
