For the Big Band folks, another full concert by the wonderful WDR Big Band. From 2022 in Cologne conducted by Americal trombonist Marshall Gilkes.

Marshall Gilkes (trombone, conductor) plays a series of his new compositions together with the WDR BIG BAND. Recorded as part of the concert "Fresh Start" at the WDR JAZZCLUB / Cologne in November 2022. Marshall Gilkes was a member of the WDR Big Band from 2010 to 2014 and has been coming to Cologne with new material ever since. With "Fresh Start", he returns as a trombonist, composer and bandleader: "A lot of the music I write these days is inspired by people and places, especially my two children."

(As a retired recording engineer, it's interesting to see a number of ribbon mics in use. The old BBC 4038 on trumpets and Royer 121 on some other brass, including Marshall's solo mic.)

I went on YouTube and watched a bunch of performances of "Run Rudolph Run" done by performers who probably weren't even born yet when Chuck Berry recorded this song. The singers and the band members looked like they were having the time of their lives. The classics just keep living on.
