Just after the first of the year, I aqcquired a stainless steel S&W 1911. Have just had the opportunity to shoot it today. I realize most guns need a little breakin period but MAN is this gun good!

I shot just under 100 rounds, really just looking to start breaking it in but I swear I cut the center out of the target. I am really pleased, not a hiccup, bobble or any problem.

It is a plain jane version, that way I can modify as I need to but I may just leave it alone.

I do not know if others are having this level of satisfaction, and I think of myself as a revolver guy but my three 45 ACP's from S&W have all been homeruns as far as I am concerned

My 4506 was a trusted and beloved partner, my M&P 45 now is at my side and this 1911 is going to try and steal my heart.

A true case of S&W 1911 satisfaction. Isn't that what we really want when we buy a gun? Right out of the box on target and perfect function. Congratulations on your new gun. Enjoy. Bruce

Did you get a 5" or 4 1/4" barrel?
I have an M&P 9mm which I really enjoy shooting but a buddy of mine also got a sw1911 and it feels like an excellent piece. I was thinking of the shorter barrel for carry. Any thoughts?

alphabrace,

I got the full size 5" barrel and could not be happier.

pawncop you could not have made a better choice! I have had my sw1911pd for about 2 years, have run more than 3,000 rounds thru it w/o any problems. I had to do a slight adjust on front site to align perfectly, and the only other thing I have done was to install a lighter sear spring. I may replace the trigger and sights sometime (white dot) but it shoots so well as is I hesitate to change it anymore!

Got a new 1911PD 4.25 today. Had one and sold it months ago. Happy again now.

Where have all the 1911's gone?
I've been looking for one to purchase but man they seem to have dried up. Smiths, Kimbers you name it they are hard to find right now.

I picked up a Doug Koenig model 1911 last year, and finally got it out last weekend to shoot. It's previous owner had passed, and I bought it from the estate, so I don't know how many rounds had gone through it.
This one has to be the 'smoothest' feeling 1911 I own, and by that I mean through the trigger pull, recoil, and reload sequence. No slam, bang, clank, nothin', just ain't enough O's in smoooooth!
I LIKE this pistol!

Congrats on the 1911. I've owned three at various times, 2 Kimbers and 1 Springfield. I don't have any at the moment. But maybe next time I'll try a Smith. Enjoy!

I have a 'commander' size 1911pd- scandium frame so the felt recoil is, of course, more noticeable than my steel framed Colt. Very accurate, nice trigger, and a pleasure to shoot-EXCEPT for it's nasty habit of sending a spent case back in my face now and then! Sent it back to S&W and they tweeked with ejector, but it still does it. Have around a thousand rounds through it so it should be 'broke in'. Anyone else have this problem?

Mine has thrown a few cases at me . . . I'm still under a thousand rounds. I figure it's a good training thing - don't get distracted by the little stuff!

To the original poster: I LOVE THIS GUN! I did have to adjust the Crimson Trace's to align with POA and adjust the sights alittle, but I've had the same experience reliability-wise (that's what's really important!!!). I have a 4" Kimber with shortened alloy frame (7 rnd mags) Compact Alum; an alum. frame Para P-14, and used to have an Colt Officer's - this is my favorite. I have to say that Colt got the size right when they came up with the Commander - it balances and points perfectly (much better than the 4" Kimber!)

I bought mine from Bud's. It's the basic blued fixed sight model and it's a beaut. An extremely accurate gun. I had a little problem with it initially, the slide release lever would not come out when I attempted to field strip it. However, Smith took care of that for me and, now, everything works to perfection. It's a great gun. I've been a revolver guy pretty much since forever, but, I must say, this 1911 has truly stolen my affection.

I got lucky and found one the first owner was having trouble with. He sold it too me cheap! The extractor was too tight not letting the rim slide all the way closed. A slight clean up is all it took to get it working right. I have many 1911's including three Kimbers, but I find myself shooting the S&W1911 and the M&P 45 and leave the others at home.

I too have become a HUGE fan of S&W 1911's. I ran into a deal not long ago where my LGS bought some demo's that S&W had out to P.D.'s. They had been sent back in to S&W for any repairs or clean up. These two looked as nearly new in the box shape. Anyway long story short, one is a 5 in stainless tactical the other is a 4 1/4 1911PD. They are lights out. The way I look at it the guys at the P.D.'s just broke them in, the 1911 PD is my new carry.

I also noticed a nick in the brass. One of the range instructors is a reloader, he said it was the extractor so don't worry about it.

My S&W 1911Sc is the second most accurate handgun I own. The MOST accurate of the whole herd is my dad's old K-38 made in 1949.
Glad your are serving you well!
Randy
