I took two guns to the range with me this morning, my beloved Model 27, and my brand new S & W 1911. The 27 is perhaps my favorite revolver and I shoot it as well as any gun that I own. Or, I did until this morning. I shot the 27 first, using some 158gr .38 +P and then, some really amped up Remington 125 gr. 357 magnum. I was pleased with my accuracy with the .38 +P, less so with the .357 (kept pushing my shots slightly left of center). Then, I switched over to the 1911. Wow! I put shot after shot in the 10 ring, almost effortlessly. Now, bear in mind, this is a brand new gun, almost unfired before today. The gun functioned almost flawlessly. I had one failure to load, and twice, the slide did not lock open after the last round. Aside from that, perfecto.
I've been a revolver guy all my life and have never had much use for semi-autos. I just hate Glocks, for example. But, this 1911 has opened whole new vistas for me. I definitely could see myself going over to the dark side and becoming a 1911 guy.
