Very good shooting. I use iron and aperture sights a lot with .22s and everything else but I couldn't come close to that.

My tale of favorite .22 rifles would start with a beat up Winchester 67 [my first], then become a salty Browning T-Bolt. I could cut reeds with it in my youth when it had my 3x9 Redfield TV screen scope on it. But since my retirement I have these two favorites, a Winchester PreA Model 52 and his brother in arms a Springfield 1922M2. The Model 52s trigger is amazing [to me].

My Savage Anschutz Model 54 Sporter I shot matches with and it would hang with bench guns. I also had a Remington 40X Sporter Repeater that was VERY accurate; but to valuable to carry around and shoot in matches.

The Model 54 is a heavy action. It is what Anschutz uses for their target rifles.

I cheated with this one. This is a Remington 40X USMC. I used a Lyman SuperTargetSpot 25X scope at 50 yards. That is a Barber Dime for group comparision.

Back in 1972 I had a Weatherby Mark XXII that would put them into a dime at 100 yards open sighted. I have had many 22 rifles in the over 75 years I have shot but none were ever like that Weatherby.

I had a Mark XXII bolt action in .17HMR; it was an Anschutz 64 action. Beautiful rifle.

My days of competitive .22 shooting are long past and I sold my 52B some ten years ago. But regarding scopes for a .22, I have several of my remaining (non-target) .22 rifles I have fitted with cheap used Weaver 1" K2.5 scopes which used to be widely available for nearly nothing. For use between 50 feet and 50 yards, which is about as far a distance as I ever needed to shoot an ordinary .22 rifle, parallax was never a problem with the K2.5s. Parallax adjustment is much more important for scopes of high magnification to be used at longer distances.

I had 2 really good ones at the same time, a Remington 40X sporter repeater from the old Remington custom shop. The second was a Winchester 52 C sporter. Both were superb lookers and shooters. If I had to pick one a slight edge would go to the Remington.

When my younger son was 20 he shot a 1.5" group with a 1935 vintage Winchester Model 67 (based on finger groove stock, butt plate and bolt) at 100 yards with the factory sights. When I was a teen I shot the same group with a brand new (man I was proud of that gun $60 out the door) Remington Model 582 factory sights. My older son has it now. Scopes? We don't have no scopes. We don't need no scopes. I don't have to show you any stinking scopes!

I've had many CZ s and they all shoot very well. I shoot on a local forum contest monthly with (2) open class 457s.


I also have a nice 452 American that I just bought and have high hopes for.


And a very good shooting Remington 541X with Williams peep sights.

Seeing that 40x Remington Sporter brings back memories. In December of 79, I was at my, then favorite, gunshop looking for a 22 bolt gun. At the time, I was a Ruger and Winchester fan. The owner tried to convince me to buy a, Remington 22 sporter repeater, very accurate 40x. I was having nothing to do, with what I thought was an overpriced Remigton at $400+. I ended up buying an Anschutz 164M, which was extremely accurate. It was a great rifle for shooting anything I didn't want to eat.
It in turn got traded for a KImber Classic 22 lr. in April of 81. That Remington was still there, and owner again tried to convince me it would be a good buy. He was even willing to move it, at a better deal.
Well I was young and dumb and not fond of anything Remington. I learned about 10-15 yrs later, when another dealer aquaintance was offering one, for the princly sum of $2000+ used. It was promptly bought by the owner of the gunshow venue. Not the first or last gem lost due to opinionation or ignorance by me. lol.

I don't have a CZ rimfire but I probably should have - I do have CZ bolt guns in .222, .223, 7.62 X 39 and .458 Lott - all of them are excellent rifles.

I do have a Winchester Model 75 that will shoot .3" groups at 50 yards but it is heavy, I have a suppressed Ruger American that will do 1/2" at 50 with good subsonic ammo and I got lucky with a Ruger Standard auto pistol I bought used for $25 back in 1972 and mounted a 2X Leupold on it - it shoots 1/2" at 50 as well.

I also have a Colt Woodsman made in 1934 that will shoot 1/4" at 25 with iron sights (when I do my part).

All of the above however require good ammo which seems harder to come by these days

I bought a used Walther target .22 with a Lyman 10X outside adjustment scope for a friend once and took it home until he could pick it up - I zeroed it at 100 yards and after I got tired of shooting walnuts off a tree at 100 yards, I set about only shooting the stems that held them - talk about "buyers remorse" I can't figure out why I didn't buy that gun myslef! It was only $100 (then again I bought a brand new S&W Model 28 for $196 about that time).
