Picked up this 27-2 5" on consignment at the local pro shop last week.
SCSW puts the serial# somewhere around late 1969. Appears to have been a LEO's holster gun for much of it's life. Several spots of bluing wear, lots of little nicks and scratches, but only into the finish. Rear sight blade was beat up pretty good. The LEO was probably short enough the holstered gun was just about desk top high. All the lettering on the gun was filled with gold lacquer. Must have been someone's pride and joy at one time. Much of the gold is now worn. I'll finish cleaning out the rest later.
Timing is good, bore is clean and sharp, when I took it to the range last Friday it shot quite well. I swapped out the main and reuturn springs for lighter Wolff versions yesterday. Also swapped the probable original grips for the usual Hogue monogrips I put on all my range guns.
I overpaid a bit at $600 + tax + $20 transfer fee, but I don't care. The seller was firm on his price and I really like the look and feel of a 5". Besides, you can never have too many N Frames.
