Picked up this 27-2 5" on consignment at the local pro shop last week.

SCSW puts the serial# somewhere around late 1969. Appears to have been a LEO's holster gun for much of it's life. Several spots of bluing wear, lots of little nicks and scratches, but only into the finish. Rear sight blade was beat up pretty good. The LEO was probably short enough the holstered gun was just about desk top high. All the lettering on the gun was filled with gold lacquer. Must have been someone's pride and joy at one time. Much of the gold is now worn. I'll finish cleaning out the rest later.

Timing is good, bore is clean and sharp, when I took it to the range last Friday it shot quite well. I swapped out the main and reuturn springs for lighter Wolff versions yesterday. Also swapped the probable original grips for the usual Hogue monogrips I put on all my range guns.

I overpaid a bit at $600 + tax + $20 transfer fee, but I don't care. The seller was firm on his price and I really like the look and feel of a 5". Besides, you can never have too many N Frames.

You did NOT overpay one dime. In fact I'd call that a great price. Now, take those rubber grips off THIS MINUTE, as I have seen some nasty corrosion under them/caused by them.
Nice piece.

but soon the fever will catch up to you

Too late. This is my 1st Model 27, but my 11th N Frame.
The same pro shop also has an almost perfect 27-2 nickel 8 3/8" with an asking price of $670. It's owned by the shop so there is some wiggle room in the price. If it had a shorter barrel I'd own it already, but I sure am temped every time I see it.

Great gun you bought there and congrats! Beauty marks from the LEO packing it make the gun IMO. I'd be all over that nickel 27 at that price but blew my wad on a couple of rifles.

I would take the grips off, wax the frame well and then wax the inside of the woodies if you put them on. They really will help in the looks dept.

$600 buck is a bargain, for a dash 2 5"er, they go for around $1000 up here in Canada, and there are quite a few around believe it or not, good catch, Dale Z in Canada!

I think the 5 inch Model 27 has the best balance and awesome good looks. You got that one for a really decent price.
