While always on the lookout for 11/47 S&Ws, I thought of another collecting thread to follow. It started (sort of) when I turned 45. I ordered an Ultimate Stainless Colt Officer's Model .45 ACP. Since calibers would run out (.46?, .47?... ), that was the ONLY birthday gun bought in that manner. Fast forward to when I was looking down the barrel of celebrating birthday #6-OH. I decided on collecting as many model #s that went along with the birthday numbers. They had to be stainless steel, have barrels 4" or less, and have pinned barrels (recessed cylinders if offered on that model). I planned ahead and bought a Model 60, sent it to S&W P.C. for a mirror polish, then off to Wayne D'Angelo for his engraving artistry. 60 was VERY special. 61 offered nothing that fit the parameters, and neither did 62. 63 was fulfilled with a neat little 4" shooter.
This year, number 64, the slot was filled by linde, fellow SWCA Member from MO that I met at the SWCA 40th Annual Meeting in Tucson, AZ. He had an M64-2 snubbie complete with original box, papers, and unopened tools in ++++++ shape.
Great gun and great guy. Thanks Russ.
A 3" RB M65 is now on the to-buy list, but I have 11+ months for that. I might find it in Boise ID @ the 42nd Annual SWCA Meeting next summer. 66 is already in the safe. 67 may be a bit of a challenge, and 68 is going to be a REAL challenge. Nothing for the final of the 60's number.
I hope my grandson will like all these down the road. He's only 3 ½ now, but an NRA Life Member!
Here's the current group: (M66 doesn't get in the picture… yet.)
