I just put a new Hogue monogrip on my 686. Overall, I'm happy with the fit onto the revolver. However, looking at the last picture...Is that the best fit a Hogue will give at the base?

I should have taken a better picture from a little further away rather than a macro shot up close, but the spacing is a good 1/16 of an inch.

Thanks

They look great, I could never get a set to fit my hand while shooting. Alway left those funny looking bumbs that are full of water, OH MY - hurts just thinking about it.

I suspect many mass production grip makers have learned to provide generous clearance at the heel of the grip. You'll see a lot of grips without such clearance showing chipped or cracked wood in that area. I don't know if it's a high stress point during recoil or something like that or what, but I assume this is why larger gaps there are more common nowadays.

They don't look great, but they're OK, and they get the job done. I own them also, but for about the same price, I really like Ahrend's for the money.

They look good on that revolver and if they fit your hand that's all thats needed.

I'm a big fan of Hogue grips, since they fit my hand perfectly. There are manufacturing tolerances in both the grips and frames. With a bit of careful fitting, you can eliminate the gap if you wish.
