My ammo buying technique

My routine is quite simple really.
I go in to W/W ask for 9X19 W W/B 100 packs. I am told when monkeys fly out my a** you'll see some here. I go home and reload the meager stash of 9X19 I was able to assemble before the magnetic poles shifted.
Circle completed. See you next week in order to hear the same response. Repeat as necessary...

Yeah, In hind sight. I bought a reloader a little too late. Now I can not find primers either

629,
It's my own fault really? I've reloaded for 45 years, but waited too long to buy my first 9X19 ever as a hi-cap last year. Got the gun in a timely fashion, but neglected to buy enough factory stuff to shoot for the brass prior to lift off. I still could go Starline and reload. But I'm so much of a dinosaur, that I can't break the habit of shooting factory stuff, then reloading it? So it's a self inflicted wound by an old fart being stuck in amber!

I ordered from several websites. They are all on backorder, but they ship them to me as soon as they come in. Usually, 2-3 weeks. I was driving to several stores, but was unable to find any and wasted a lot of gas and time.

I highly recommend a flintlock.

No primers to buy, and I haven't noticed a shortage of round balls or black powder.

The shortage of black powder was about 1 1/2 to 2 years ago when it was thought that the shipping regulations were going to change for black powder.

It's the same-old same-old all over again, just this time with ammunition.

I think you'll see some rock bottom block-busting prices on ammunition in about six months. I'll eat my hat if I'm wrong. (Did I mention I have a hat made out of rice cakes just in case?

Yeah,
And I figure if I ever ran low on Lead, I could just melt down what passes for a house rep's brain around here?

Quickest in & out to WM sporting goods dept is usually park by the automotive entrance. Especially on a weekend or peak busy times.

Just like the grocery stores put the milk in the far back corner. That's so you have to pass by (and hopefully buy) all the non-essential stuff on your way to and from the necessities. Same thing at WalMart with ammunition.

This is how I roll (Walmart only). It has proven to successful. 1st, you need to be living in a city with at least 10 Walmart stores. 2nd, then I apply the same hunting skills I use in the wild (know your prey's habits). I stalk the 5 closest stores near me EVERY MORNING(7:30am) when I am in need of ammo. One store usually has what I am looking for (9mm Blazer Brass $8.97 box of 50). Before the six box limit, I would buy 500 rounds. I have built a stash and maintain its level. Whatever I shoot on the weekends, I replace every two weeks. Life is good. the Walmarts in my area(don't ask. OK, somewhere in south texas.) are always receiving ammo. The morning is the best time to catch it. The stores don,t know what shipment it will be on, but they know it comes in. The early bird catches the worm

. The next best thing is to know someone who works for Walmart. Next we have the Academy stores. These guys also get ammo regularly. I was in Laredo TX. 5-20-09 10am. I stop in at the Academy just of IH-35 south. This store had just finish re-stocking ammo. They had roughly 2000 rounds(40boxes) of pretty much everything

!! even .380 . The guy at the counter said that it would all be gone by sunset at the latest. BUT, they had it. The walmart next door had nothing. Walmart and Academy is where the action is. Pricing is still reasonable, Academy has gone up some. Timing is everything. I place a curse on all who are gouging and I wish nothing but bad things to all your family, friends and pets. What goes around comes around.

Pensacola, Florida update:

Mikes Gun Shop
Some Blazer Brass, one box only
JHP one box only

Academy
A lot of FMJ in .40, and 9mm
no defense rounds

Wal-mart on 29
9mm case and a half in stock Blazer Brass
9mm WWB 100 count available (not much)
.40 about 7 cases in stock Blazer Brass
.45 available (FMJ)

It seems to be easing up a bit around here a little bit.

ammo is plentiful in missouri guys.well at least at my house. But if everybody stayed stocked up,what would we talk about?good luck on ammo hunting.gunnut2

Well said...I did one all day drive around...Cost me lunch, gas and a lot of time...I found a nice little shop...Lot's of ammo, 5 minutes in and out...9mm at $16-17 per 50 is fair to me...Also supports these small gun shops...We need them...

Call the day before

My local Dicks store gets delivery's on Thursdays I call Wed night they check the manifest sheet for delivery's ,Today I scored on a box of Winchester 22 LR 1280 fps 333's for 17.99 used my rewards 10.00 credit from Dicks. They limit one box per customer , which is ok with me
Dicks is the only dealer that doesn't gouge customers

I have purchased all my ammo on line for the past year. The LGS is way over priced, and the one Walmart store in town has a small, mostly empty ammo case. Walmart's prices are often higher than what I can find it for on line. Mostly 9mm and 45 ACP. Of course shipping is a factor, but so is the gas I would use driving around searching. The next closest Walmart, Academy, Gander, or Dick's, is 23 miles from my house.

My pattern is I go to Wally World when I need to go for something else. No other stores close by me. I get what I need then meander past the ammo cabinet. If they have it I buy my three boxes, still limited here. I don't make a special trip but I do try to go there after 5:00pm, that's when the truck delivers around here and they stock the shelves or at least they know what's on the truck if I want to stay for it. Haven't seen any .22 for a coon's age. I almost hate buying where it has to be shipped but for everything I need except .22 I can find on the internet.

Just ask most of the time they will tell you about what time the truck comes in, at least around here they do. The Wally World app never worked for me, around here it always shows in stock then after traveling 30+ miles they tell me the app always shows in stock but it's not it never updates. But lately I've ever seen .25 and .32 ammo which they never had before the shortage. They also around here are getting a lot of import ammo. Plenty of AR's on the shelf now also.
