My best friend died...

It may be some small help to know that others understand and have been where you are now. So sorry to hear of your loss.

I have lost many dear canine friends and hope to see them all again someday, and to have the pleasure of their company, and the honor to care for them. They all gave more than they took.

Nice to see you posting again, Paladin85020.

I think it's better that your friend died peacefully at home if it was his time to go. My last two dogs got old and sick to the point that they had to be euthanized. Taking a beloved friend to a vet and standing beside them while they are put down is a horrible experience. I have rarely cried in my life but those were two of the times I have. I well know how it feels. I like most dogs more than most people these days. I am sorry for your loss.

I am sorry for your loss. Beleive me, they are family as you know.

I have a 12 year old mix, she is huge part of my life. I know I will be a total basket case when it's her time. I wish dogs could live as long as people.

Take comfort in the fact that you gave him a good life.

Best wishes

Bob

Sorry for your loss. Dogs give unconditional love. I wish I could have all my past dogs back.
I am getting older and worry about leaving my present dogs(3)

Sorry to hear that Paladin.

I know the feeling all too well.
Lost several dogs in the last few years, with our boy Jack just last month.

Damned allergies.

As some others said, take in another dog in need, as you did with Bucky. It looks like he had a great life in spite of a rough start. A successor who also needs you is the right tribute.

Thank you all for your wonderful support. I know many of you have lost a cherished animal friend, and so know how very much it hurts when they go, never to be seen again.

This morning I placed some of Bucky's hairs (from the spot where he died) and his collar which he wore from the time we adopted him until he died, in a plastic bag for preservation. Those artifacts I will keep until the day I too pass into the great beyond.

For the past couple of mornings, while drinking my morning coffee, I found myself saving a few swigs at the bottom of the cup for Bucky. He and I have had this routine for so many years. I think I will start a new tradition. From now own, I'll save a little coffee at the bottom of the cup for my buddy. It'll go down the sink, of course, but perhaps in a way it will always remind me of the special bond we had. He will always be so very close to my heart.

Again, thanks, friends.

I posted about the untimely death of my "buddy" two weeks ago. I understand and am sorry. sounds like a great dog.

After reading of Bucky's passing our new dog Millie got an extra hug. Its been nearly 18 months since we lost Bogey and having Millie really helps but I'll never forget him as with you and Bucky.

A beautiful friend, so sorry for your loss I have lost several Pointers you never forget their love, you will always have him in your memory.
