My CCW renewal is/was being held up???

Back in the early 90s when PA first went shall issue, my application got held up till called the sheriffs office. Apparently, they were holding it because according to a department of Social Security letter they had, nobody should have three consecutive 0s in the last four digits of their SS#. I had to take my card with me and spend an afternoon in Pittsburgh and personally pick up my permit. Never had any problem after that, always thought that was kinda strange.

If you want to avoid the delay and cost of a NICS check, you still need a CCW in any state with constitutional carry. Also, CCW reciprocity with another state requires a permit, otherwise you cannot carry out of state.

Makes sense...
If I ever get down that way in the future, I'll take my expired permit and see if I can renew it.. :) (It ran out on 9/8/2011 but I still carry it in my ID folder)

Heck, maybe I'll take a road trip and get it renewed and then head to Butler County PA to renew my permit there, it expired in 2008, guess I need to get out more... :)

You are not the lone ranger, Steve...

I sent in my AZ renewal form and fee in FEBRUARY - plenty of time - or so I thought..

I count on that permit to take trips into states east of AZ that accept our permits, and to buy from FFLs without waiting.

I got my AZ permit in AUGUST.

The only official excuse was that the Dept. of Public Safety is understaffed.

Good grief.

John

I've had an Indiana carry permit for over 40 years. 15 or so years ago they started issuing LIFE TIME permits. The cost was twice as much and after a couple of 4 year renewals, I got the LIFE TIME and was fat and happy.

A year or so ago Indiana went permit less carry, but because I have the LIFE TIME permit, it is valid in about 70% of the states. I need to get a Nevada or Utah permit to be able to carry in any state that has any brains.

Finally got it...

OP here with an update, got my new permit in yesterday's mail. Still have no clue what held it up or why it took 6 days to get here from Phoenix {100 miles south}.

The timing is good as we are driving up to visit our friends in Angel Fire NM on Tuesday. Got my 4" Smith model 10 in the truck with hollow points. probably {hopefully} will never need it but am of the don't leave home without camp and it is always nice to be legal.
