My dangerous walk

4--5 am need to use bathroom. now I try to miss bed post with toes. Hope to miss dresser and obstacles on floor, then the trip back. The golden years!!
I did that a couple of times, broke a toe in 2 places... Now I have a small flashlight on my night table. I don't leave my bed when it's dark without it. My little dog leaves toys on the floor and I also am afraid I'd step on him and he's so tiny he'd break! So for all our sakes, I depend on my flashlight! It's literally a lifesaver [emoji175]

Another advantage for men: Nalgene bottles!

In earlier times I took care of business that way so often during mountain climbing and camping trips that at some point I asked myself why I was crawling out of my warm bed at home and traipsing through the cold in the middle of the night.

Never looked back. Roll to side, grab bottle from nightstand (get original Nalgene, they close tight), do what you have to, reclose and put back, sleep.

Can you tell I'm not married? :D

I must get up at least twice every night and use the bathroom facilities. I have stubbed a toe several times and struck my shin on the furniture a couple of times, but so far have not broken anything. Night light in the bathroom. Night light in the hallway.

In addition to not suffering any fractures yet I am very grateful that everything still works, including the night lights.

I was never so glad as when my son passed the Lego phase. Step on a lego in the middle of the night in your bare feet, and it would make your saintly old grandma cut lose a string of cussing like a Marine Corp drill sergeant!

Legos... weak sauce.

Also useful when living in a dry CHU in a far away place, and the alternative is a frigid walk to the head trailer to take care of business.

Yeah, I think there are a lot of us than we would like to admit that do the "Fred Sanford" walk back and forth from bed to bathroom.

When I had cataract surgery about a year ago, I spent the first night sleeping in my comfy non reclining leather wing back chair with my feet up on my ottoman. I did this because my normal bed sleeping included jamming a pillow up against that eye. Since that night I have moved that chair and ottoman into my bedroom and slept in it every night .... WHY you may ask?

1. MY BACK PAIN IMPROVED DRAMATICALLY ! It had been so bad I couldn't stand for more than about 10 minutes before I had to sit down. Now, I can stand and/or walk around FAR longer without the back becoming an issue.
2. SLEEPING THROUGH THE NIGHT without waking up or having to get up! .. I made good use of the "pee bottle" when sleeping in the bed. Now, if I pay attention to no late night liquids and be sure to get a good "drain", I will sleep straight through for 6 or 7 hours ( I have also done 8 )....WOW!!
3. NO DRY MOUTH ..This has really helped the sleeping. My mouth stays shut sleeping in the chair. In the bed, I would wake up several times and have to sip water to clear out a mouth full of "cotton".

I use a nice "velvet" travel/neck pillow put on backwards and a regular pillow under each arm. I scoot the ottoman all the way up against the chair so it supports all the weight of my legs. I cover with just a blanket.

Going to sleep around midnight and waking up around 6 to 7 AM for the FIRST time is a frequent occurrence.

Yep.... I'm single, 72, live alone, and sleeping WAY better for the last year !!

We call those "goat heads" around here. The enemy of boys' bicycle tires and old mens' feet around the yard. They cling to everything and like to come inside the house with you and find a place in the carpet.

Yup. My years long war against them in my yard seems to have paid off. Knock wood I haven't seen one in quite awhile. I search for their bright little yellow flowers after a rain. Still odd patches of leftover caltrops that find their way inside.

They are so bad elsewhere in my 'hood I can't even walk my dog in the area. I have to drive somewhere.

I finally broke down and bought - slippers. I have not had slippers since I was six (they had crossed western revolvers on them), but they keep my feet warm and cushion my toes when I stub them on something in the wee hours of the night. At least they do not have bunnies on them!
