My kids grew up listening to Old Country Songs, Marty Robbins, Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, George Jones, Loretta Lynn, Hank Williams, Patsy Cline, Just to name a few, we even got real crazy sometimes listening to some hard core Rock N Roll, like Carl Perkins, Roy Orbison, Elvis Presley, Buddy Holly etc.. I felt so good a few days ago I get a text from my daughter, who is going to a university in another state, she said *Daddy, I am sitting in a coffee shop studying, and they are playing Johnny Cash, it sounds so good, it made me think of you Daddy*. Of course I get teary eyes instantly, I do miss her very much, best part is, I know a lot of kids their age have never even heard of these singers or songs, but my kids enjoy them dearly!

Thanks for sharing, nice story. Don't forget that it works the other way as well. A few months back I was missing my little girls (now 36 and 32 ) and feeling a little low so I sent them a song that basically told them how much I loved them and missed them. I don't even recall what song now.

I made their day and both responded and thanked me for thinking of them and telling them so. Sometimes as we get older, we think of them daily but don't let them know. They are busy with their young lives and don't always have the time to reach out.

Life is short and we never know how long we have. Make sure that the people that you care about know whats on your mind. ;)

You're right about this. My boy and I trade youtube clips back and forth all the time. Recently the young dog taught the old dog a new trick and introduced me to Leon Bridges tunes.

My 46 year old son has come around to Mama's way of thinking on the country music, we went to a Willie Nelson concert together last spring.
Merle Haggard was supposed to be on the concert billing with Willie but sadly it was the day after his passing. Jamey Johnson filled in for Merle.
We both really like Jamey, he is newer county but in the old style real country.

He is also bigger fan of the Beatles than I am.

Adding this video because I like it so much. Jamey performing one of Merle's songs the night Merle[ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V-Dt-4Xd7fs"]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V-Dt-4Xd7fs[/ame] passed away. I saw him do it the next night.

We have a "new" pastor at my church(I put new in quotes because he's been there a year and a half). He's a few years older than I am-I think in his early 30s.

In any case, he rarely makes it through a sermon without mentioning Johnny Cash. It certainly makes me smile.

I don't know how many folks I've had tell me that they don't like "old" country music but then really enjoy themselves when they ride in my car or I play something for them. I've even heard "I didn't know that was an old song."

My 27 year old son recently thanked me for teaching him the meaning of real music as opposed to the pop drivel. Never was aware that I was doing this but guess he was paying attention when I wasn't.

It sure makes it nice when the songs and music played is liked by everyone in the family, and enjoyed together.

I am not sure how to put the link here, but Chet Atkins has been on my favorite list for a very long time and also Jerry Reed. I don't know how to put the link here from youtube, but you can go and open it on there, but they have a duo guitar together of the (Mystery Train) WOW!!

Here you go Revolver59. Process is pretty simple. Go to what you want on youtube. Copy the address then paste it on your post here.
