Hey all. So I have a little dilemma. Last fall I had to sell several fire arms. One gun that had to go was my primary summer carry gun, my SR9c. So jump forward Now I find it's getting warm and I only have 3 choices to carry.
1: Ruger LCP w/ CT LG-431
2: FNH FNX-9
3: S&W M&P45 full size.
Obviously the M&P45 is to big to carry in the summer and even marginally so in the winter. So that brings me to the FNX-9. I absolutely love this gun, and IMHO it's the best hammer driven 9mm on the market at this time. Anyway, I digress. So It's very comparable in size to an M&P9. The FNX-9 is .35" wider, .23" shorter in OAL and .10" shorter in height. Very close. The safety levers make the width it actually measures 1.17" at the frame. So my option is to try to continue to carry this all summer long or Carry my LCP. I'm not sure if Im comfortable relying on my LCP as a Primary CCW all summer. It's more of a throw it in my pocket for a quick trip to the corner store kinda gun. SO here is my dilemma. Do I sell the M&P45 and replace it with a more manageable size CCW or keep it and pray that my birthday (July) or 10th wedding anniversary (Oct) brings me another CCW or scrimp and save till I can afford another gun. I think I've narrowed my choices for a replacement weapon down to an M&P9c, SR9c, Glock 30S, or Springfield XDm 3.8 45ACP. I'm leaning towards either 45 ACP, reason being I live in CT and am now limited to 10 rounds, I think I'd rather carry 10 rounds of 45 ACP than 9mm. And if I do, decide to sell the M&P45 I'd want to replace it with another .45 ACP. What would you do?

So the your 3 choices are your guns you can actually carry? If so then I would go with the Ruger LCP.

If you want a small carry .45 you should look into the Springfield XDs.

If you wanna stick to S&W check either the Shield and/or M&P9c or 40c.

Or you can look into .380ACP like the S&W Bodyguard or Colt Mustang.

It's totally up to you. You should focus on what's comfortable for you and put the caliber on second place. If it's a life or death situation I rather have a .380 than nothing...

I agree something is better than nothing. I would not get rid of the LCP it's a great pocket gun or BUG. I just think I am more comfortable wit ha 9mm or 45 ACP as my primary CCW. I don't really wanna sell the M&P45 I love that gun, but when I got out with just my LCP I some how feel under armed, and Im thinking the FNX-9 will be a little to big for an everyday CCW in really hot months. the reason I didn't consider the XDs is capacity. With the Glock 30S I'm a 10+1 and the XDm 3.8 I'm at 9+1

I didn't mean for you to sell the LCP. I meant for you to carry it until you bought something else you like more and be comfortable with as well.

With a Milt Sparks Summer Special II IWB holster, I find myself carrying my M&P 45 full size pretty much year round.

My vote is to get rid of one of the full size guns and find something between the fullsize and Ruger 380.

I am biased and would say you should get the M&P 40c. If you don't like the snappiness you can try out 357 sig with a barrel change or go to 9mm with a barrel and magazine change. I love my 40c.

In the current market you are paying as much as 20% more for 9mm than .40 S&W ammo. There is huge demand for 9mm right now.

Lowest current prices on gunbot for brass (not steel cased):
9mm is 0.60/rd
.40 S&W is 0.46/rd
.45 ACP 0.65/rd

If you are set on a 45, the Springfield and Glock 30s are great guns.

I have a FNP-9, 40 and 45. Great shooting guns. I recently purchased a Glock 30S which I like a lot. It fits in my Glock 19-23 holsters and is very accurate. You can't go wrong with a 30S, Good luck finding one.

Dump the m&p and get another SR9c. You will be glad you did. Good luck! Regards 18DAI

My wife carries her FNP-9 all year round. Right now she has it under her t-shirt. Her other guns are a Beretta PX4 and an XDM 3.8 .40 S&W which she alternates. She is 5' 6" and has no problem carrying full size firearms.
