My dog ate poison

Great job with the hydrogen peroxide! Beautiful dog. We kept our son’s dog years ago and he jumped on the washing machine, opened a wall cabinet, tore open a box of rat poison, and ate a bag. An emergency phone vet told me to try the peroxide. (Before internet) Took 2 doses for this dog. I won’t ever forget counting the little green pellets in a pile of foam and comparing to the number in a new bag. The dog live for over 15 more years!

First, glad Breakaway500's pup came through OK. I'd have been freaking out. As far as the subhuman detritus that poisoned Kinman's baby, since we became dog parents again I've become as protective of our boy as I was with our daughters. I've often said that if someone would hurt him intentionally I'd burn their house down with them in it and I'm not really kidding, at least metaphorically. Hope it never comes to that.

There is nothing as dangerous as a jealous former husband or boyfriend.

A current husband, even if separated, can be downright dangerous.
A friend's older brother found out the hard way long ago.
He spent three weeks in the hospital, but all body parts were still attached.
He was asked nicely, by some NYC heavies, to let the husband and wife try to get back together, but his arrogance got him some down time.

Many years ago wife and young daughter bought this cocker spaniel pup from pet store at a mall. I repeatedly told them, never buy from mall pets shops, no use. Regardless he became a pretty good puppy. Some one left a box of chocolates on the dining room table while we were both at work and kids in school. Came home to find the box torn to shreads, candy wrappers everywhere and a satisfied looking puppy. Seemed to have no problems. few years later his name was changed to “ The Beast from the East” as he became vicious and had to be put down.

Glad you caught things in time and successfully got him to get it out.

A friend lost a dog to similar circumstances. Ate the middle out of a chocolate cake and didn't end well.

As for poisoning someone's pet for revenge, there is a special place in hades for them. I sure hope he didn't have kids.

Thanks for the warning about Xylitol and I’m happy to know your buddy is doing ok. Good for you for being on top of that. In a similar circumstance I probably wouldn’t have thought much of it. Had no idea about the stuff and it being poisonous to dogs.

Some years back our 60 lb dog swiped a chocolate orange off of my desk at Christmas. We watched her closely and it didn’t even faze her! Bailey was a menace lol

We were told by our vet that a little milk chocolate probably won't hurt your dog other than possibly a little diarrhea. Dark chocolate, though, can be deadly - especially if it gets a lot of it. This after a pup got into a bag of Hershey's Nuggets. Thankfully milk chocolate and no ill effects were seen.

Grapes, raisins, onions, garlic, alcohol, and avocados (especially the skin) can all sicken and possibly kill your dog. The same are also bad for your cat (yes, xylitol too). Don't let your pet have raw dough with yeast in it as the yeast produces alcohol which is toxic to pets. After it's cooked the resulting bread is okay-ish.

I did not know this stuff was toxic.
I have a cat i wander if it is toxic for other animals as well.
Google is not much help

There is a lot about cats and dogs that I too don't know.

My granddaughter has her first ever pet, a kitten.
The kitten nibbled some of the Easter Lilly that her father brought by as a gift.

Thankfully, because the GD is a new kitten-momma, she Googled the effect of the Lilly on cats and, after an urgent trip to the vet and a $400 bill, the kitten is alive and well.

For less than $400, I could have replaced the kitten.
