My extractor pulled a disappearing act.

Well it finally happened. I have right at 2,500 rounds through my gun and the extractor finally blew off. I think it was my fault though. A buddy and I were shooting and he had just bought some Remington .22 bullets, I can't remember exactly which ones they were but they were a brick of 525. I knew I should have just stuck with my Blazer ammo that I always use. Well, after I ran about 20 rounds of that Remington ammo through it, one shell went BANGGGG! And I mean loud. I knew something was wrong because my right ear was ringing from it. So I looked, and the casing looked like it had exploded in there. I didn't realize until later on when I went to clean it that the extractor was gone though. So I guess I'll be sending mine back! I still love the gun though and I'm gonna stand by it!

As far as I'm concerned, any in spec 22 LR ammo should function in a rifle chambered for the 22 LR. I know that S&W explicitly recommends staying away from Remington ammo, but you shouldn't lose an extractor because of it. I guess the question is, "Is the Remington in spec?"

Personally, I don't like the lube that is all over the Remington cases. I have bought the Remington on sale and used them without problem in Ruger 22 pistols. I don't use them in rifles, but I'm sure lots of people do.

Based on what I hear, S&W does a great job of supporting the 15-22. Good luck.

No it went off when I pulled the trigger and it was really loud. I called this morning and they said they would be sending out a shipping label or something. Who will bring that to me? The UPS? And do I send it back in the box that it came in?

Yes, you got an OOB or out of battery. The casing was not all the way in the chamber when the primer was ignited.

FedEx is S&Ws shipping service. If you requested email, they will email you the shipping label. If not, you'll get it sometime next month by snail mail. S&W recommends shipping in a plain box. I know some have shipped in the box that came with it from the store.

S&W will fix it for you. OOBs are not just a M&P 15-22 occurrance. They can happen with other semi autos when the bolt gets crud around it and doesn't close all the way. Out of spec ammo is also a culprit.

called last monday
got the shipping label on thurs
put it on Fed Ex today
Returnee's said average turnaround time is 2 weeks but some have had it within one week (crosses fingers)
Mine had a OOB discharge happen twice within 2 mags
DTX7.. Serial with Blue spring too
Smitty also includes instructions with the Label
I also used the box it came in but i turned it inside out
works very good too (No markings on outside)

I believe an OOB occurance in other rifles is quite rare, but is happening with these Smiths WAY too often.
I have probably owned about every semi-auto 22 made in my lifetime, and never had this problem.
Smith needs to remedy this problem before someone gets seriously injured.
No way these should fire OOB. Poor engineering.

Yeah I hope I get my Rifle back "In Spec"
Funny thing is I bought the gun brand new
Cleaned and Oiled it
Went in the Back Yard and shot only two mags when this happened
So no Crud or cleanliness issues contributed to the OOB Discharge
Cant wait to get it back

They send you one USPS but they say u can get it emailed and print it out
I gave mine to the Local Fed Ex lady when i saw her near my home
I live in a Rural area (NE Az) Rocky Mtns so Fed Ex Ground stops by once a week here.
I think you can take it to a Fed Ex Location as long as its not a Kinkos/Fed Ex location (At least thats what the instructions said)
After repair they said they send the rifle directly back to you.

The instructions w/ the call tag are fairly complete. They will ship the rifle back to you but keep in mind that it must be signed for by an adult. They will not let you sign the slip and leave it on the door for the delivery person.
