I decided I wanted to try the 40 S&W. It’s the only major caliber I’ve never owned.

Since I like the Beretta 92 series, I figured a reliable choice would be their updated 96A1. It has the recoil buffer and ships with 3 12 round mags.

It fits nicely in my holster for a SIG P220R. My first box of ammo is the Speer Gold Dot 165 grain. We’ll see how it runs.

Anyone else like the 96a1?

I have one that is my bedside gun. I put CT laser grips on it as I am not very well sighted without glasses at night. The 96 eats all the ammunition I have fed it with no problem.

My only complaint is capacity. I had a 96D and it was very accurate. Looked terrible. Ex police gun. Best ringer for an accuracy challenge ever. Sold it after it proved too slow for idpa.... mistake.

A HUGE pistol for medium and small hands.
I was really surprised that it was picked for our Armed Services Issue Pistol.
To me it was awkward, heavy, IMPORTED, and hard to shoot accurately.
I suspected unfounded hanky panky for them to get the contract.
I have owned and shot several of them. Same opinion.

I got bit by the Beretta bug last year, all 92s so far. I've been on the fence over the 96A1. American1776, congrats on moving into the 40 world. Please let us know what you think of yours after the range trip.

Of course. It's always some hanky panky if you're favorite gun isn't picked! I think it's been hanky panky since 1800. Probably someone thought the 1911 was hanky panky.

In reality the gun is build to be solid and reliable from the get go. It passed all tests. By the way...the runner up was also IMPORTED. In fact they were neck and neck in reliability but Beretta offered a lower price on future parts and accessories.

I have a 92FS and bought a 96 upper and several magazines a few years back in a package parts deal. Shoots fine and also have a .22 conversion unit for it, super easy to switch calibers. Enjoy your 96A1!

Congratulations American to the Beretta family and the .40 cal. I think you’re going to like it! ;)
I don’t have a 92 in .40 but I do have the Beretta Cougar in .40 and it’s a great handgun!

Arik,,,

Really Arik, Like they they didn’t put the fix in for the M1 Garand over the Johnson rifle and machine gun? How about the flush of the Thompson until they really needed it?
And how about the fix they put in on the M16 during Vietnam?

The purchasing department for our militaries weapons have always acted above board!

I’m just appalled at the thought of this! :D

I have a 96D brigadier and put an extra wieght recoil spring in it, just as frame insurance from those .40 cals. Like it alot, accurate and reliable.
