This is my first antique S&W.

Not my the first S&W and not my first antique but a S&W still missed.
It is in very good condition, as I dare to say myself. Works good, sharp edges, no big flaws. And at €580, which is about $760 not that expensive I thought.
I am very pleased with it.
What I would like to ask is the production year. The seller stated 1864. The standard Catalog does not give years to serial numbers of the antiques.

I just finished the setup of a site for my antiques, I would like it if you would take a look: Home - www.oldguns.nl

Very nice, and more impressive that you have .32 Rimfire rounds to display with it!

If you can post the first few digits of the SN, like 123xx, omeone here can help with the ship date.

Your Model 2 would have shipped around 1864, right near the end of the American Civil War, so it is possible that this example could have been used in the war. They were popular private purchase sidearm for those soldiers who could afford one. It is well known that these revolvers up to the early 40,000 range can be considered Civil War era, but those with numbers above yours may have arrived too late for the war effort. Also, many earlier versions were sold to distributors and civilians, so direct ties to the war are difficult to document. If an individual bought their Model 2 directly from the factory, a factory letter would confirm this.

Nice job on your website.:)

Last Saturday I shot with my Model 2. I used cartridges from HC collection. I had only five shots but the revolver proofed to shoot well with them. Maybe it has not been fired for more than 100 years but no problems for such quality made gun!
I must say it's only about 13 yards. Last time I shot a antique revolver, my Remington .38RF, I had only one hit on the target so I did not dear to send the target to far away.

Also I found 6 good .32RF long catridges to be displayed. These are rrom navy arms, I think of the 70-ties ?
