I purchased a used MP15 today with serial number starting with TL. Does anyone know what model I might have?, barrell is also 1/9. Very excited to start my journey with my first S&W! Thank you.

So it looks like I've got a 2019-manufactured M&P 15 Sport II with crimson trace. Going to clean her and hopefully get to the range soon. Anyone have any first timer advice with these?

I had a Colt and an Olympic Arms AR-15 decades ago and I thought they were OK but not great and I sold them and made a big profit. Then I built a couple when the parts were really cheap and accessories were cheap and they're more accurate than the early ones and I really started appreciating them. I would tell the OP to just start shooting it and enjoying it.

My 1st "AR15" was the full auto version and I didn't care for it at the time. Pretty much stayed away from them until California told me I shouldn't have one. I think I'm up to about 10 now and all sorts of uppers. :)

Much as I like the bolt and single shot, lever action types and the work it can take to make them perform well, there's something about being able to drop in parts, add an upper and create a whole new type of rifle.

Take a lot of ammo as they are fun to shoot and eat up rounds fast. If you take it apart and clean it you will know how to break it down so you should be able to solve any problems easy enough. I would be surprised if you have any problems though they are pretty dependable.

Ar’s run well when the bolt and carrier are well oiled

I've been told many times that they don't care much about being dirty but they need to be kept wet.

I don't always clean if I only run a mag or two, but mine get oiled after every range trip.

Thank you everyone. I have the M&P 15 Sport II OR. Will the Magpul MOE MLok carbine length handguard fit my rifle? I don't have iron front and rear sights so I wasn't sure how it would look or fit without them. Thank you.

I have never been addicted to heroin, or those other addictive drugs,,
but,,,
the AR must come pretty close,,

I had one for over a decade, then I wanted an "OR",, and I lucked into a used one at a gunshow,,

It don't look like much, but, it shoots great, and came with a 22LR conversion kit,,,

This one has allowed me to "learn" without worrying about damaging an expensive gun,,

If there was more ammo around, I am positive that I would own WAY more of these things,,, :D

I have a question for you. So many people are buying firearms just recently, for the first time in their lives. What made you want to buy an AR right now and not in the past? :)

Great question! Until recently I lived on the east coast so owning anything was highly difficult. With the way things are right now I wanted a versatile platform. I saw my neighbors Springfield Saint Victor and talked my wife into getting a AR but couldn't spend that kind of money. I ended up getting a used M&P 15 with 3 mags and a soft case for $700.00. Been staring at her every night!
