My first experiences with my 15-22 have not been too good.

I bought my 15-22 the last week of February. I got to take it to the range the first time last weekend. I had a ton of failure to ejects (stovepipes). I was shooting fed. value pack from walmart. i had several boxes with from different times and different walmarts so the likelihood of them being from the same batch is very slim. when I shot ammo from the first box it would stove pipe every 4-5th round, when i switched to the second box it was every other round stovepiping. but the ammo from that box worked flawlessly in my marlin 60.

This weekend i took my 15-22 back to the store i bought it from, i had purchased their extended warranty thing. they took it into the rand and fired several mags of different types of ammo. they only had one jam from a cci, they said the Remington golden bullets feed well through it. so they sent me home with it and told me to switch ammos.

I have a ton of boxes of fed value packs and i would really like to be able to shoot it out of my brand new gun. I have the blue springs in my gun. Should i send it back to s&w or just deal with the fact i cant shoot the fed value packs from it? does s&w pay for shipping to and from?

dont run the remingtons period... go buy a few boxes of cci mini mags or stingers and run them for a few hundred rounds.. then switch back to the feds

strange that your swont feed the fed value pack and thats about all that anybody else can use besides CCI

open it and see if you have the new blue springs. also the new mag. That says

22 LR
25 rounds

Ive sent mine back and and got this. Now my 1522 run flawless period! I love it!!

OK, new "old" guy here. Figured it was time for me to chime in. I got my 15-22 mid-February as well; has the compensator and blue springs, ser. DTX7xxx. I spent a LOT of time reading this site and educating myself beforehand...a huge thanks to everyone who's posted their experiences and graciously shared their knowledge.:p
My first range trips were filled with "***'s"...even with CCI minmags and Fed bulk, I was getting an FTE every 4th or 5th round; it was picking-up and feeding a round from the mag just fine, the empties were getting smashed sideways between the bolt and breach face.
Looking at the ejector pin, it looked pretty close-in to the bolt bottom. I was almost ready to call S&W for a return tag when I thought I'd take a chance...I tweaked the pin with pliers to the inside just a hair per the Youtube video; then I carefully worked at pressing the pin down to the point where you can't even slide a hair between the pin and the bottom of the bolt.
Back to the range...I've been through 16 mags so far, mostly Federal bulk, and not one FTE, nor any FTF's!!! This thing sings like a champ!
I realize I took a chance snapping the pin off, and I won't 'recommend' what I did to anyone; S&W appears to have outstanding CS and you'd be much safer just sending it back to them for the fix. But my lesson learned here is that it requires some really close tolerances between the pin and the bolt to work correctly, and once there, wow does it work!:D
Again, thanks so much to the hosts, moderators, and contributors to this forum!!!

yes on both, i have blue springs and my mad says 22lr and 25 rounds.

my ejector is pretty damn close to the bottom of the bolt.

i think i am going to shoot some cci mini mags ans stingers through it and then try fed, value packs, if that doesn't work i will send it back to s&w

Panther, what was the first four of your serial. Was it also a dtx?

If it won't shoot the federal bulk ammo, your ejector is in the correct position and the extractor is still intact then you need to send it back. Especially if you have the blue springs too. About the only thing mine likes is winchester and federal. Haven't had any luck w/ Remington Gold. I had random fte's in the beginning and then it was every shot. I bent the ejector and she has been a good runner since unless you count the crappy Remington Gold.
Just send it back and get you a couple of free mags. If you don't want the free ones I will take them.

Mine loves Fed Bulk and CCI MiniMags, chews em up and spits them out at a blistering pace with only the occasional mag snag on the original revision mag (no issues at all with the 2 new mags).

I use Federal Bulk exclusively. I have over 2000 rounds through the gun and can't remember the last time it malfunctioned on Federal Bulk. I don't believe I've had a malfunction since the first 100 rounds or so, and then they were rare.

I have been lucky and haven't had to tweek anything to get my 15-22 to function correctly.

A great gun and it makes every range trip I do.

I'm getting to polish the magazine lips on a couple of my magazines. Or the inside of the bodies where the follower rides. Three (3) misfeeds in the last 800ish rounds of Winchester 333, all from the same magazine.

I went to the range last week and all they had was rimmington ammo, so I told them what Ive read about that stuff. They gave me a box of standard velocity and a box of hyper velocity for free and said here try and tell us what works better. So I did. Hyper velocity worked great. Standard golden bullet was crap. Multiple ones didnt fire at all couple didnt feed.

I've been using with great results cci all types, federal bulk, and agula hyper velocity. No problems with any of them.

gotta agree with the majority , after getting my gun back from smith (extractor blow out) i shoot win 333 and cci blazers and havent had one problem since. now my son wants one to go along with his M&P15. :D

I want a M&P15 to go along with my M&P15-22 :D

The M&P 15-22 is a unique little carbine.

The M&P 15 is just one of the faceless AR15 crowd.
