Thanks for a great forum! And thanks to Smith&Wesson for a great handgun. I just bought a .38 Special hammerless revolver with the S&W laser sight. I bought it for home defense for my wife and I. (the top gun in the image below)

I need a good cleaning kit for this thing, any advice? I'm not real gun savvy so a "already put together" cleaning kit would be great for me.

Thanks for any help!

MPro7, a .38/.357/9mm cleaning brush and mop, a new toothbrush, a cut up old t-shirt, some RemOil, etc. You really don't need much to clean one.

Be sure to sight in the laser!

Wichester cleaning kit from Walmart along with Hoppes and some Breakfee have worked for me along with a Boresnake.

Any basic Hoppes .38/.357 cleaning kit will do. You can find them at any sporting goods store or gun shop.

Choose a solvent depending on whether you are shooting lead only, copper jacketed or plated, or any combination of these type bullets.

I like the Hoppes solvents and Shooters Choice solvents. I use BreakFree CLP for light lubing after cleaning. A bit of advice. Don't over lube. A thin film in the bore and a drop or two on other moving parts is all that is needed.

Welcome to the forum, and good luck.

Welcom to the forum. My dad use to work at the old Ford plant in MS back in the '50s. I went to Sheffield HS. Small world. This is a great place to "hang out", lots of good info and a great bunch of guys and gals.
Welcome!

Welcome, Rover93. I've only been here a month, but you'll find helpful and friendly folks here. Good luck with your new revolver. WARNING: these products may be addictive.

Remember this: Half as much lube as you think you need is twice as much as you actually need.

Glad you're here. So many lost souls out there in need of S&W rescue.:D

It doesn't replace a basic cleaning kit with rod, jag, and brushes but I like to have a Bore-Snake for use at the range. A few swipes during a practice session reduces build up and makes complete cleaning much easier back at the house.

I find the Bore-Snakes to be a little undersized. I will be buying a .40 caliber one to use on my .38s. The .38 caliber size just doesn't contact the chambers in revolver cylinders as I would like. Might be OK for semi-auto barrels but I only have sixshooters.
