Recently aquired S&W 686-6 7 shot.
Grips are warped near the top but the rest looks good, seems like a low round count.
Hope the recoil is less than a model 66 i once had.
I plan on plugging that lock hole soon enough, and getting different grips.

Congrats on your addition. Mine is a 4" 686-6+ and it was the one that started me down the S&W path. They're great shooters that IMO soak up .357 felt recoil very well (.38's are quite tame to me)

I've gone with lots of different stocks on mine. Most often the factory "goodyears", Ahrends combats in maple, or (currently) Altamont targets.

Love my 3" and 5" 3-5-7 686+s. If I recall correctly, the bore axis of the L frames is a bit different and the L frames are a tad heavier. I typically shoot 125 JHPs for both and recoil is very manageable with the 3" obviously throwing more muzzle blast.

An observation with newer S&W revolvers, any amount of barrel cant can cause sight in irregularities for shorter barrels. If you are only worried about 15 yards or so, may not be a problem depending on bullet weight and load. Had this issue with my first 3".

Gotta be different. Mine is a 7 shot, 5" Pro Series. Really had to have it when I went to the gun show. Like the action, and the non typical looks! Bob

Yes, you definitely need to do something about the lock hole. I bought a kit from a forum member, bullseye smith, in 2016, who made them himself.

It seems to be a popular model, i cannot decide on grips there are so many options.

Is the 3 inch barrel less popular than the 2.5?

Thanks to all

There are many grip options from which to choose, I was in you position not long ago and have purchased several different sets. Here is another option I purchased from s&w website several years ago. Also, for my taste, I prefer the 3" over the 2.5".

I am considering the same grip with a tyler t.
Do you have a boot grip to sell you wont be needing?
Thank you

for no good reason (other than it was a new material concept) I bought a Taurus 617ti in 1999. 7 shot, 2" barrel, .357 in titanium. No perceived weight at all. Try to imagine recoil on that puppy.
