Great thread. Here is my first 686 plus with a four inch barrel. I changed the grips to the deluxe wood which I like much better.
Next to it is my EDC 637 performance center.
Some awfully nice guns pictured on this thread! Especially like the photos of that sweet 5" PC gun. As to the discussion over 2.5" and 3" bbls, I vote for the 2.5" any day. Heck, I'd take a 2" in a heartbeat, but then, you know me!
I recently purchased a 686+ in 3".
Went with 3" instead of 4" because I wear OWB on holster and was concerned the extra 1" would show below my shirt that I always wear out. Here in Florida we don't have to many jacket wearing days.
The only thing I changed on mine was getting rid of the squishy cheap feeling Hogue grips and was able to track down an original pair of Pachmyer grips still in the carboard box.
While I could have dressed it up I was looking for durability and something with good grip.
I would post a picture but not sure how to do it.
Those are some nice 686s. I'm a long time fan and had several since introduced. My current -5 is a 6 and 7 shot gun, with one cylinder converted to 9mm.
One of my favorite shooters in my S&W collection is my 5" 3-5-7 series , 686+. The fit and finish and balance on that gun is about perfect . It's a tack driver when I do my part too. That said, I still struggle with the whole 7 vs 6 shot thing. I'm actually looking into converting it into a six shooter to sooth my old soul.
The lock delete should be here this week, bought the pachmayr compact grips for the time being.
I like the look of the shorter grips but i may end up with some extended wood grips i have to check the recoil on the compacts.
Pics later this week.
