A month ago we were getting ready to go on vacation. My LGS got in a K-22 (pre 17), 6", correct stocks, excellent condition, for $550. I passed, but all I could think about on vacation was picking it up after we returned home.

When we got back, I went down to the store, and sure enough, it was gone. However, coincidentally, he had just taken in on consignment a Model 17. A 17-3, 6", in excellent condition, for $320.

It had Sile stocks, which were in need of re-finishing, so I put these cocobolo targets on it until I can find the correct ones. I haven't shot it yet, but I have high hopes for it. Like I said, this is my first Model 17, and I couldn't be more pleased with my purchase.

So no, this isn't a "how did I do?" post, but a "hey, check this out!" post!

Excellent find. Couple months ago I finally found a very nice model 17-3 at a small gun show. Dropped double what you spent and was pretty happy with my find. I have only had the time to shoot it once but it is a pretty smooth shooter.

I have never had great luck at finding a great bargain but I still don't regret getting the model 17.

You should have bought a lottery ticket that day I am thinking...

That is a very nice model 17. I predict you will enjoy shooting it immensely and it will become one of your favorites. We are all a little jealous of the $320 you gave for that. Good for you.
Enjoy it and take care.

Congrats....You did steal that one so waiting payed off !

I like those Herrets have 2 pairs for the range...

BTW the 17-3 had a fairly long run....IIRC about 1968 to 1977,
If you are interested in its approximate DOB post the serial .

Thanks! I got those Herrets at a gun show in Vegas. I paid 50 bucks, then won 30 on my way out of the casino! (South Point, in case anyone wants to know).

The ser. # is K959xxx. I think it shipped in 1970, if you could verify that would be excellent!

Yes probably early 1970...maybe Feb / March ish

Yep, you stole it. I paid $700 for my 17-3 and do not regret it. Enjoy the finest .22 revolver ever.

It may not be a "how did I do?" post...but you done GOOD!
