Wow! That looks like a brandnew wheel gun. Was it someone's safe queen?
 
Great snag! It looks like the goodies came with it too! I picked up a 586 recently, and it is a super Smith to own. It was clean, but no extras. Enjoy the 686, and Welcome to the Forum! A lot of knowledge here. Bob
 
I bought it BNIB back in the late 80's. Also had a 6", but sold that one and kept the 4". Thanks for the nice comments...
 
WOW that brings back memories! 1986, and my first centerfire handgun, I think mine was a dash-2. I learned to reload because of that gun, and put a shade over 46,000 rounds through it in the five years I had it. My loads were a little on the exuberant side, and it had to be re-timed twice, but I have never had a gun I shot any better than that one. I have a 3" 686 now, but I think I could make room in the safe for one of those!
