You are going to love that gun. That's nearly a perfect duplicate to the one that got me started down the dark road of S&W addiction.

Here it is wearing a set of stocks much older then it:

Nice find from my home state - congrats!
C&R licenses do have their advantages. I'll bet it's really nice for those who live in the more restrictive states like Cali and NJ. It's nice having a gun mailed directly to your home and not have to pay the transfer fees. God knows I've save enough in fees to buy a few guns ;)

FYI - Brownells give a discount to C&R license holders. You just need to register for an account and fill in your C&R license info. I've saved quite a bit over the years with them as well.

Actually I do have to pay to have it sent to a regular dealer and to have it registered and the 10 day waiting period. Even though it is over 50 years old it is not not the approved list. What the 03 FFL -allows me to do is to import it but all the normal paperwork still applies. However, if the governor signs AB 169 that will no longer be the case. No handgun not on the approved list will be able to to sold in California. Knowing Gov. Brown (I was on his security detail when he spoke at the Alameda County labor day picnic in his first term) he will sign it.

Dscampbell... Good for you!!

Did you also have CA a COE? That adds additional benefits to having the 03 FFL in CA.

With a COE, there is no waiting period on C&R handguns, and you are also excluded from the 1 gun per 30 day limit and HSC. It the handgun qualifies as a C&R, it is exempt from the requirement of needing to be on the roster.

For a gun to be a C&R, it either has to meet the 50 years or older rule and be a "RELIC", or listed on the BATFE C&R list as a "CURIO", it does not have to meet the 50 years old "RELIC" rule when it is on the BATFE C&R list... example of modern S&W's on that list... various commemoratives... the M53 Jet.

I also have a C&R FFL, we need to make the most of it while we can before any of the pending legislation possibly gets passed ino law and closes off that exemption to the handgun roster.

1blindref... in CA we only can get long guns shipped to us, all handguns sill need to go through a dealer when shipped to us from out of state. Now here's the stupid part to the law... If I buy a C&R handgun with my FFL while out of state, all I need to do is bring it back, file a form and pay $19 fee.

But that all might be changing soon too.

Also Midway and Graf & Son will give discounts to C&R FFL's.

The whole world of c&r guns is waiting for you. Besides the older modern guns you also have the military surplus guns too. Besides discounts at Shop Shooting Supplies | Reloading | Gunsmithing | Hunting gear ? MidwayUSA too.

My very first C&R purchase with my C&R FFL 03 license was a turkish model 38 8mm mauser for $36.95. As my little collection of military surplus guns rounded out and the first grandson was born I got into the older turn of the century 22cal guns for the grandson. The kid now has an awesome collection already.

I thought the c&r rule was that hand guns had to be carried into the state of ca and no shipping from out of state was allowed.

Please advise. I have just applied for the c&r.

Thanks

Currently if the handgun is on the federal C&R LIst or over 50 years old it can be shipped into California but it has to go to a regular FFL , be DROS'ed and is subject to the 10 day wait. If AB 169 passes and goes into effect that will change.

Well my 38 military & police revolver finally arrived in California. All the red tape California requires added $110 to the original price of $445. The 10 day hold has ended today and it is now here in my home. It has been refinished but the grips number to the gun. I added a BK grip adapter and boy does it feel nice in my hand. That's the good news. The bad news is summer break is over and I am scrambling to get my classroom setup for students next week. No time to try this gem out for a while. Too many hoops to jump through but I am glad I was able to import this gem into the ungun friendly state I live in.

I'm glad you finally got her home and in your hands.

Reading posts like these from those who live in restrictive states makes me happy to live in Pa. I can't imagine having to wait a month and a half and pay an extra $100.00 + just to take possession of a gun.

It's also very sobering to know unless we stay vigilant and get out to vote each and every election, we could also be in he same boat.

When I got my C&R many moons ago, I was mostly into mil-surp. Now that ATF passed the 50 year rule it's so much easier. Still saving to get a 1919 belt fed to annoy the neighbors....maybe some day.....Lee.

I love my C&R license. After 2 purchases it was paid for. And having them sent to my door is great.

Nice ds. If you're like many of us it is just the start. One bit of advice, don't automatically assume because the firearm meets c&r requirements that the seller will accept your license. Some sellers will post but if they don't I always ask before bidding. I have a few lgs around me that won't accept either. Enjoy
