Info from S&W puts it at 1980. Rather unremarkable target grips but it is a sound piece mechanically and has a worthy appearance. Please chime in with any comments or questions you think I should have. Remember, I'm new to revolvers but my interest is S&W and I'm looking forward to the next one. A 3.5" if I can find it in similar or better condition.
Finish is deep blue but I used flash to contrast metal condition.

Congratulations. The 4-inch version is much less common than the 3 1/2 or 6-inch lengths - and your find is a very nice one. Enjoy,

Jerry

Thanks for your comments, guys. Keep 'em coming.

Now, sneakered, I've got me one of them presentation cases:

Also came with a blue S&W clamshell case and oilpaper. No documents however. And I do not think either case was original to the gun.
Now about that price-everything has its measure but for right now, it's...

Congratulations on your purchase. As others have written, the 4" is a bit scarce, and it replaced the 3.5" and 4" versions. I have a nickel model with a 4" barrel, and it's one of my favorites.

While those Goncalo Alves targets may be "plain", they certainly do dress up your revolver. They tend to add a bit of balance to the look. That's one fine looking Model 27!

Enjoy!

I'm rather certain that more will follow as you are off to a fantastic start, I would suggest a set of Patrick's Elk Stag horn grips. They are gorgeous to look at and really set off the N-Frames and are one of the few additions that will enhance the appearance of any N frame, of any generation. I have a set of diamonds magna's on my 1951 Nickel pre 27, but when I can afford to, I will invest in another set of Patricks Stags. billy magg

have one just like it. now you need one like it in 61/2in bbl. and on and on and on. it never stops.

I had a chance to buy a very nice 4" 27-2 about ten years ago. I passed on it and regretted it ever since. I did run across a 4" 27-3 that I did buy. I sold that one to a friend soon after I bought it. It just didn't scratch that itch.

I agree with billy magg. Patrick crafts some mighty fine
antler stocks. Here is a 5 inch 27-2 with a set of Executioner elk stocks.
teesur.

I've got a call into a dealer on a nice 3.5". Wish me luck boys!
