Well finally got my first S&W revolver, it's a 642, intended purpose is as a bug, ankle and pocket carry. Holy cow what does the factory set the trigger pull at, had to be 15 lbs +. I put the Wolff shooters pack spring kit in it, 8 lb hammer spring and the 13 ls trigger spring and really lightened it up, I'd say it's probably around 10-11 lbs now. Added a Laserlyte laser. Had it out to the range and put about a box of ammo through it between standard pressure 158 and 125's as well as 125 gr +p's, shot pretty well considering the small size and heavier trigger than what I'm used to with my Ruger. Now comes the search for some nicer wood stocks

First nice choice!

Second, I see the Navy emblem, so thank you for your service.

Last, if you go to the S&W website, and go to search, type in rebate, and fill it out, mail it in, remember if whatever you are using has your SS# please black it out, they need to see your ID.

Funny that you should start this thread. I, who has never owned a S&W that had a lock, recently purchased a M642 Talo edition, with the lock, for the same purposes that you mentioned. I have not changed out the spring in mine. I have been using snap caps and pulling the trigger A LOT. The trigger pull has gotten better, but still heavy. I wanted either the Ruger LCR or the M642. I tried both, went with the M642, it just felt better. You might want to look at the Talo stocks for your M642.

Thanks for your service as well AF, I'll be sure to check on the rebate.

I was also considering the LCR, but I just couldn't sell myself on the polymer frame and figured the J frame has the aftermarket as well.

Very nice. If you want some nice wood grips, and since Talos were mentioned, you should search the classifieds here. You may have to go back a few pages, but I believe someone had a nice set for sale at a very reasonable price. (Not me)

Enjoy
