So I grew up in the 80-90's shooting my dad's model 25-5 6" duty gun. Recently I ran into a retired cop from orange county that told me he had a nickle-plated 25-5 4" that he no need for. I picked the rig up with a few holsters and ammo. Now just salivating waiting for my 10 days to be up....damn Comifornia! Any of you seasoned S&W guys have any tips for a new comer to the revolver world?

Well, you picked a good one to start with. The 45 Colt can be loaded up or down, and can be a target gun, Self Defense gun, IDPA competition gun. Maybe a few other uses as well. If you don't reload yet, look into it. You will enjoy shooting this enough you will need more ammo, as well as what you can custom make for it.

That is awesome. Looks like you're on the right track to me.

I own a S&W 25-5 4" barrel revolver and enjoy it immensely. I must point out the finish on the gun in your photos does not appear to be factory. That will affect the value of it.

Here is mine.

Yeah it was a motor cop's gun so he had it done in nickle to avoid rust. The biggest reason for me picking it up was purely sentimental. It's probably my 30th gun, but it's the one that inspired me to be what I am today. Anybody know where I could get some original wood grips? Thank you all for the comments.

Try the forum classifieds or EBay-of-Pigs.

My 25-5 had the football targets.

BTW, nice gun. Wish I'd held on to my nickel 25-5 (w presentation case). Mainly for the value it would hold today.

You will not be disappointed friend. I got one back in 1984 or so, 4" nickel as well. I love the .45 Colt round and having it in an N frame just makes it all even better for me.

Hi, I have found really nice grips at good prices on ebay. Look them over good and ask questions. Congrats on your gun! Bob

I also have a Model 25 Mountain Gun in .45 Colt. It is one of my favorite handguns.

I reload, and I believe the .45 Colt is one of the most versatile rounds for a revolver or even in the handgun range of firearms.

My Model 25 has factory grips produced by Ahrends and they are wonderful grips. Check out the thread below on the forum entitled "Ahrends Grip Source". In the thread, a lot of forum members highly recommend the eBay seller named "gripseller" for ahrends grips.

I think you are going to fall in love and never depart with your new revolver till death. Congrats~

So I picked up the revolver from the gs today and it feels great in my hands. Gonna tryto make the 2hr trip to dad's to go shooting. It should be pretty cool to be out with a pair of 25-5's!

Tips? Start saving money. You have just acquired an addiction that you do not yet understand the severity of. You will be buying another S&W in about 45 days... guarantee it.
