I am a Ruger man. Own 11 of them. Today I bought my first S&W. A 642. I can't wait to get it. It is so light! I can't wait to get this cannon to the range. I have heard nothing but good things about this little revolver. I have two questions. 1, this thing is so light! Can it really withstand 500-1,000 rounds of +p? 2, what aftermarket wooden grips can anyone recommend? Thanks!

Spegels are very popular, other options are those from Eagle, Altamont, Ahrends, Esmerelda, and several others. Spegel boots grips seem to be a favorite, hand size matters as much as anything. I'd suggest trying them on for size before you buy. These are Spegel square butts on a Model 36, I prefer laser-grips on my pocket guns.

Will the gun hold up? Well, I shoot a mix of standard-pressure loads and Plus-P's, and my 642 is fine after about 1200 rounds or so.

Rubber Boots

I've had mine for several years and love it. I've tried different wood grips....look great! But I keep coming back to the stock rubber boot grips that came on the gun. Maybe try it "as is" and then make a move. JMHO....YMMV. Congrats on the S&W!

If you ever need service on your Smith, you will throw rocks at Ruger. 642/442 are very good revolvers. I would avoid a steady diet of +Ps.
