Being a steel semi-auto guy, never much thought about revolvers. I used to shoot rats with my Dad's K22 Masterpiece back in the 60's, but not since. Then, last weekend while window shopping in my lgs, saw a S&W 66 and 69 under the glass. Remembering the article in last month's American Rifleman, I asked to look them over. I've picked up large caliber revolvers before, including Pythons, and didn't care for the feel. I don't have large hands and it seems that large frames was what all large caliber wheel guns were made on. These felt much better! Putting the .44mag on an L frame seems to have been the key to getting me interested. Now, I own a Mod 69 and am quite happy. And that's before I have even shot it! Still need to go christen her. Maybe this week or next.
As for the trigger pull, it's very nice in SA, but DA is a long hard pull. Before turning my attention to any trigger work, I'll run about 500 rounds and a considerable amount of dry fire through it. Then, probably this summer, I'll reassess the need to perform some outpatient surgery.
Lastly, although the stock grips feel good and are ergonomic for my physical attributes, they are not, in my opinion, very pretty. My first 'upgrade' will be for some dark wood grips. I've just started my search, but any recommendations or thoughts on this subject would be most welcome.
Best Regards,
