MY GARDEN IS PROTECTED !

thanks, guys, n happy b day to you too les.
i cooked a huge pot of meat sauce friday, so i spent my b day doing no work at all. eating, shooting n watching movies.
drifter watched movies with me. but she falls asleep during the old ones.

Is there any change to you too? You two have a lot in common these days.

Hats off to all you cat lovers. As some of you know, Ruthie and I have been part of a rescue outfit for over 35 years. In that time we have personally taken in 25 cats. We currently have 5. They all have led and do lead happy, pampered lives and gave to us more than we to them.

I believe all who participate in this thread feel as Mr Bunyan did:

ig, drifter is as mean n cranky as i am. we were watching charlie can.
she was between my legs, under the comforter with her head sticking out.
i was rubbing her tummy when she attacked the comforter, chewing it to pieces.
when i inquired as to what she thot she was doing, she swiped at me n got a claw in my finger.
the only thing that saved her from getting whacked was her speed.
she knew full well, i don't react well to this sorta thing so she leapt for safety before i could get her.
she is under no illusion that i'm a cat lover who won't retaliate..

Rusty, I only take exception with Mr. Bunyan in this: our animals repay us in full measure with love and companionship, far beyond whatever we can do for them. Not that we expect them to, but they do anyway. Lucky is laying on my lap as I write this, an Bella is close by, watching every move.

Best Regards, Les

thanks, guys.
it occurs to me that feeding something that may be a wild cat makes me a lunatic.
but, there is the question of equity.
i feel that i should tend anything that eats my mice.
that's why i started taking care of drifter.
i meant her to be an outside cat who killed for me.
i didn't intend for her to ever come in the house, but i needed her
to accept my presence.
i didn't know that i'd become so attached to her in the process.

well, she's pretty good company.

hey, guys, does anyone understand comps n stuff?
walmart has this bresser game cam on sale for $29. thing is,
it doesn't use a regular camera SD card. it uses a micro sd card.
my lap top just has a slot that fits a regular one.
will this card fit in my comp?
just getting a pic doesn't help me.
i gotta post it here so somebody can ID big cat.
so, will this micro thing work?

susie:

It's been awhile since I've used one, but I seem to remember that there was an adapter for the micro SD card, which looks just like a regular SD card. You slip the micro into the adapter, and it should fit into your SD slot in your laptop. But I don't know if it would come with the camera, or you would have to buy it separately.

Best Regards, Les

My dad had a milk route in Hialeah Fl.one stop was a large feed & grain store with a type of barn for all the product.I walked in an noticed a large cat! Employee told me ,whatever you do don't bother that cat.We used to have lots of rats ,mice etc.Boss tried everything ...nothing worked. Then that cat just came in....noone bothered her....short time later skinny cat became bigger & rats & mice...GONE!!Boss called everyone to a meeting & said,ANYONE,hurts,or causes that cat to dissappear, gets FIRED!!

5 month approx report.
there were no trail cams on sale black friday. just as well. i'll never get a pic of big cat.
once again, i got up from a nap n saw drifter outside, on the a/c. i told her to wait a bit n i'd let her in. as she jumped off, she sure looked big. i was thinking to myself maybe there's a magnifying effect in that window. maybe big cat isn't as big as i thot. i got to the door n opened it, but no cat was coming.
i glanced in the other direction n there was a normal sized drifter on the roof of the arbor.
hmmmm.
her brother is now living here. i'm calling him cowboy. i'm sure they are related cause you can only tell them apart by size.
i don't want him here, but he's eating my mice, so i'm feeding him out of fundamental fairness.
so if i set up a cam, when drifter isn't tripping it, he will be.
keep in mind, the katznjammer kids are black n white. big cat is solid grey. i could never mistake these guys.
anyway, i don't think big cat comes often. i think he has a big range.
i'm not sure how cowboy is still alive. i doubt big cat would let him stay around. a female is one thing. another male is something else.
with all these cats around, small game hunting is dead. bunnies have split for the coast. now, my november quail rumpus in my front yard has been cancelled. i usually get a couple hundred scaled quail in my front yard. none this year, with a hungry cat under every bush.

please remember, i'm on the great plains, where cats don't exist, except for coyote food.
i now see there is an invisible web of feral cats wandering the plains you just can't see them.

i called drifter in for the night n slammed the door in her face. she was bringing in a mouse, like she did on monday.
her new hobby is bringing live mice inside the house n playing with them til they get away to terrify me.
she just killed monday mouse last night. i almost stepped on the corpse.
she continually drops them letting them get away, outside n in.
my current problem, outside of a home over run with mice, is feeding cowboy.
drifter believes all kibble is her kibble. if i take out her brother's supper, she forgets her well filled bowl n leaps out the door to get the outside food, which tastes better.
she will then refuse to come in til she eats it all.
i trapped her in the bathroom a couple times, with her food n water, while i took out a dish.
she is trapped for a whole minute. but now she is wise to this n streaks out of the bath, so i can't open the door.
drifter is very very fast.
i am not.
i gotta go see if drifter is done with her mouse so she can come in.
then, i gotta try to outsmart her n feed her brother.
so far, i haven't been successful at that.

well, i tried to back the cat into tha bath, using a broom. didn't work, but since i was making siren noises , MEE ooo MEE ooo, she split for the living room, giving me time to rush out some food for some other cat.

if the two boys were around for the last heat, i got kittens coming in feburary already.
fixing a cat runs over $100. no can do. besides, cowboy isn't my cat i didn't invite him.
big cat will probably kill him anyway.
i gotta admit, i wouldn't mind having some huge grey kitties. i can't tame big cat, because he's too scary . but a baby that i handled from birth would be tame.
in fact cats like that would fetch a very high price, but i'm not gonna breed for money.

i could get comic relief pics of drifyer, i lie here to type with my legs forming a delta.
drifter always fits herself in between my legs.
when she gets her tummy rubbed while flat on her back, her head lolls on my ankle. her back legs stretched out as far as they can go.
pretty neat for a wild animal.
when she falls asleep, i'll cover her n my legs with the comforter. most nights, all you can see is her little head poking out.
sometimes tho, she gets in a big fight with the comforter.
she attacks it tooth n claw.

i could solve lots of problems by keeping drifter inside all the time.
but, i just don't have it in me.
i know indoor cats live longer, but there is a quality of life issue.
i can justify keeping her in at night, because that's when coyotes come close to the house.
if i knew big cat was close i wouldn't worry but i just don't know when he's around.
anyway, drifter likes to come visit during the day, but hates staying in when it's light.
she is still a wild animal n keeping her in would be caging her.
i can't do that.
she only comes in during the day because she knows i'll open the door when she asks.
if you saw her cuddling with me you would think her a pet, but drifter is not a pet.
if drifter was the size of big cat, she would be a dangerous animal ,
since i love her i can't force her to be what she's not. anyway, she remains an outside cat who happens to spend time indoors to be with me.
i think the snow will need to be real heavy to get her to stay inside.
