MY GARDEN IS PROTECTED !

grip, you must get a great price on vet care.
2 cats will cost me almost $300.
i never thot i'd spend that much on cats.
at least i'll now have a lifetime supply of cats.
if neutering was free, i'd get another kit or 2 fixed.
i guess drifter is preg.
she still spends most of her time indoors n is very loving, for drifter.
mind you, when drifter is twice as loving, she is 10% as loving as the kits.
my problem with kits is that i can't keep them out of the house.
they were born here n think this is their home.
they are very fast.
if i crack the door open they are in before i can blink.
at least, after they have a good meal n a nap, i can catch them n toss them out.
i tried using the front door n feeding them outside but they still want in.
i don't actually need any cat besides drifter, but i'm used to them.
i kinda like the bear clan. they are loving n gentle.
the natayos are more aggressive, even when being loving.
in a perfect world, i'd keep the bears but it's too expensive.
If it's just a matter of $ I would be honored to send you a contribution to the kitty fund so you can keep them...

thanks, but i'm set. 2 cats have new homes n new careers.
drifter saw me grab them, load them n hand them off.
she didn't care.
i have 2 cats, drifter n cuddles n this will work as long as no one gets eaten.
when i called them in last night i watched them trotting down the hall.
cud is almost as big as drifter n they looked like a lot of cats.
drifter watched movies with me n cud cuddled me to sleep. this is working out fine.
drifter by herself will keep vermin away, so i'm set.

Yup, Biter's on barn/mouse duty out at the home ranch. She'll git fat if she works at it.

I'm glad things worked out ok for you and the kits and drifter. It's important that you're happy with how things turned out. With two of them, there'll be plenty more stories to tell. And Drifter will teach Cud as much as is possible. Enjoy them [emoji307][emoji177]

Yay, Iggy! Biter sounds like he will be a great barn cat and mouser at the ranch...I think he'll have a happy productive life with you and we'll be able to follow his story too. Have fun! I love the ranch! He'll be a big asset to you. [emoji16]

well, things are nicer here.
i have 2 cats that come in for the night.
cud comes in midday too, for a snack n a nap.
drifter usually finds her own snacks.
i was able to pick up any cat, but they started to struggle after a few seconds.
drifter at once.
she trusts me but doesn't want to be held.
cud is different.
if i'm in the mood for a nap n want company, i can pick him up n carry him like a baby doll.
i hug him to me n he purrs while being carried.
plus, i can just move him around. he doesn't mind.
as long as he's not in active mode, he prefers sleeping pressed against me.
if my knee hurts, i can put him atop t n scritch him behind the ears n he stays on my knee as a heating pad.
he is the most cuddly cat i've met.
he's needy, he comes to me for cuddles often;. i don't mind. he is exactly the cat i wanted.
more a house cat than an outside cat.
since drifter is the most ornery independent cat i've met, i think if i average the two i have 2 normal cats.

it turns out that 2 cats is the right number for me.
i have not enjoyed having cats for the last 2 months.
it was a big chore, with me fighting them to keep most out.
5 cats produce a huge amount of droppings. i was spending all my time
cleaning litter boxes.
but every time i opened the door i was confronted with a flood of cats.
they were unstoppable.
i suppose i could have hurt them every time they came in. that would stop them.
but, i spent all that time fondling them, teaching them people didn't hurt n need not be feared.
so, pain was out as a training aid.
i did throw water at biter when she was on my screens, but my screens are ruined.
2 indoor/outdoor cats don't mess the house more than i'm willing to clean.
i've worked all yesterday cleaning the mess the herd created, but now i can stay on top of it.
drifter seems to enjoy 1 playmate.
they run around n have fun.
she looked harassed when surrounded by the whole gang.
she approves of what i've done.
cuddles spends more time out of the garden now.
with only drifter around, he wants to be with her.
this is more dangerous, but drifter may be training him.
he has learned the important command. maybe drifter taught him.
when i call them in for the night, both cats come.
come to call keeps them safe n gives me peace of mind.
i herd that cats don't come to call, but these guys do it better than any dog i've had.
if a dog finds something disgusting to roll in, he will ignore the come command.
even if drifter is occupied with a huge rat, she will drag it into the garden to eat if i call her in.
this is good.

glad you are working with ferals mike.
drifter was faster, but i spent a couple hours every day on the project.
she loves me but sure isn't at all like house cats.
inside, she's still feral.
except maybe not.
when i handed off the kits, she was within 8' of the farmer n she didn't run.
of course, i was there.
she trusts me to defend her, which i will.

Susie, The SPCA here does the ferals for free and they have a low-cost clinic and traveling spay/neuter motorhome. If the SPCA is full or booked out I bring them to a local low-cost clinic that does the kittens for $20-$30 and cats $30-$40. Both these places include rabies vaccine and do others low cost. I wish these programs were regional. Our county had one of the worst feral cat problems in the country and these programs have drastically reduced their numbers.

i see some cats just need touch.
it doesn't have to be with me.
when i woke, i looked across the room. 2 cats sound asleep.
drifter was stretched out, like she does indoors.
cud had his head on her chest.
he just likes contact with either of us.

it turns out, 2 cats fit into my home fine.
that much work i can handle, but i wouldn't enjoy 3, like so many here do.
drifter's pet, cuddles is more work than drifter,
he only goes out for a couple hours at a time, then, uses the sand box as soon as he gets in.
so, more cleaning for him, but i notice the carpets don' get as dirty with just these 2.

cud doesn't fit my definition of cat.
he stays in the garden as long as drifter is there, but when she wants a snack she leaves him behind, probably because he's clumsy n noisy.
when she leaves, he howls to get in.
he is no solitary animal. he needs to either be with drifter or me at all times.
this is ok, because he only has to be on top of me sometimes. as long as i'm in the house, he can nap in other rooms.
drifter didn't like the entire clowder around, but enjoys one playmate.
she's happy, so things are fine.
cud is just a pet. drifter is something i don't have a word for.
drifter makes me proud.
when she brings a huge rat when i call, i'm happy.
when she leaps upon a bunny n wrestles it, i'm so proud of her i could burst.
she knows how to get her teeth on a bunny neck n kill it fast.
her feral actions make me love her.
until cud can do those things he will never get treated like drifter, tho he's very nice for cuddling.
on the plus side, cud has learned how to catch n eat locusts.
it's important that he know stuff he catches is yummy.
