My guide rod broke

That pic of the guide does not look anything like the one in my 40ve.
Im thinking it may not have a genuine S&W guide rod / spring combo? Could also be a problem with the alignment of the rod on the barrel step (not centered) during the field strip reassembly.

the guide rod in the picture looks like the stock one to me, the flash from the camera (i think) is what is making it look like something other than stock

I agree. I think it's stock too.

Have you guys ever seen the videos on poly guns firing in super slo-mo?

Check this out; it's a glock, not a sigma, but I imagine the sigma would be similar. The frame and guide rod flex quite a bit when the gun fires. Watch closely!

Maybe the plastic guide rod isn't a bad thing after all???

Just have to make sure it is properly seated and held in place while reassembling the mighty sigma.;)

Its definitely stock, black plastic guide rod. I think that I may have had it seated wrong like Lee said. Its all fixed and I dont have the broked pieces. I hope to take it back out soon. Thanks for all the input
