Went shooting this morning and my 22A came apart in my hand. the channel where the recoil spring goes blew off. Took the gun to the dealer where purchased and he will contact his person has S&W to see how they want to handle this.

Huh? You mean the vertical part with the indent (to hold the recoil spring) on one side and the hook (to hold the slide) on the other?

Pix?

Yeah - the only S&W 22 autos I would ever own is a model 41 or 46. Still cant get over the old Escort look of the cheap 22's

yea when I took it apart to clean it I thought that channel didn't look very strong, but S&W should know if it was safe or not. guess I was wrong. I do own a ruger standard 22 bought about 1970,thousands of rounds without one problem just wanted a new one and toss between mkIII and a smith. can't afford a 41 and the 22A had good reviews from what I found. I do own five other smiths but their all revolvers and never a problem with any of them. Won't hear anything until Monday afternoon at the earliest.

That's the reason I also bought a Ruger 22/45. Replaced the upper with a Tactical Solutions 6" and now it's a real tack driver, at least as accurate as the 41 I use to own.

Class III

Just an update. received my 22A back Friday. They replaced the bolt. Put about 250 rounds through it Friday night without any problems.
